No Longer ‘Weight’ing

Doug Weight essentially had his pick of teams. With unrestricted free agency looming at the end of the season and the St. Louis Blues mired at the bottom of the NHL, he was one of the hottest commodities in the league. "It was a huge lift for us, in terms of credibility,'' Carolina center Kevyn Adams said Tuesday. "We seemed to be under the radar to some extent, so when Doug Weight, with the career he's had, looks at every team in the league and picks here, it really says something.'' Weight's decision looks even better now, with the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference final. The opener of the best-of-seven series against the Buffalo Sabres is Saturday. This is the first time in his 15-year career that Weight has reached the third round of the playoffs.
