As we reported last night. The NHL is disappointed Ovechkin won’t be in Ottawa, but won’t discipline him for not going.

“Not comfortable?”  Oh, that is too funny.  What a lame excuse.

Still a bit lacking in the maturity department.  Poor baby.  Guess he wants to pout in private.

Of course, on merit, he didn’t deserve to be there, anyway.  And he probably didn’t relish the idea of being the one to provide Malkin with the props this time around . . . .

Really, do any players want to go to this event?  Not many… and this was a simple out for OV.  I am sure many other players wish they had an out as well…  Putting on a show for and schmoozing with the corporate sponsors… yay.

Send Matt Moulson. Getting named to the all-star game would mean a lot to someone who was probably (erroneously) told his future was in insurance sales.

No discipline for ovie unless he plays for detroit.

No discipline for malkin in the playoffs after picking a fight within 1 minute of game.

Brendan Smith gets 8 games for a less treacherous hit than someone else did 2 months later who only got 3 games.

Stewart leaves bench to go directly after wing player who doesn’t fight and gets off scott-free.

Holmstrom can get the s**t beat out of him in front of opponents net, but a less treacherous mugging in front of detroit’s net calls for a penalty.

etc. Bush league.

Curse of being so awesome for 20 years? Everyone hates you.

You just nailed it. The Wings have been on a run for 20 years. Stop whining and enjoy it.

What a Richard….seriously AO, stop whining.

Added Ovechkin: “I was disappointed, actually. The most bad thing is all my career it is going to be like that. My game is play physical. My game is play hard. I don’t think it was bad hit, a dirty hit. Yeah, I jumped but he don’t get hurt and I don’t get two minutes. I don’t think it was a three-game suspension.”

Good logic, AO.

Yeah, no discipline.  But Datsyuk and Lidstrom have to sit out a game for not going two years ago WHEN THEY WERE INJURED.

Love it.

So true.  A good reminder that these players are trading on their hockey skills and not their, um, mental skills.  They are not necessarily the sharpest blade on the skate, so to speak.

Anyone figure out what they keep Leonsis around for? Comic relief?

That’s the weird thing.  Leonsis has made a ton of money and presumably must be a highly intelligent guy who possesses a lot of business acumen.  And, to be fair, the Caps are very forward-thinking in some areas such as fan relations, online ventures, etc.

Yet in his guise as team owner, Leonsis embodies all the worst aspects of an immature fan who believes his team can do no wrong and that his guys are always being treated unfairly.  It’s like he checks his good sense at the door and reverts back to the mental level of a 15-year-old commenter on an Internet blog.  Except that in this case he has his own blog.

He can think whatever he wants, but in what universe does he feel it is beneficial to open his mouth and bloviate about damn near everything?  Why does he think this is a good thing for his franchise?  Or is he just such an egotist that he doesn’t care?

Usually, the best team owners are rarely seen and rarely heard.  Keep the focus where it belongs.

2, 3 years ago. It doesn’t make it less fair.

It’s just funny how detroit gets shit on all the time and we as a fan base have to rise above it. It’s the right thing to do after all huh?

Promise from gary we’re the first team to move to the east?

Detroit gets lumped in with the canadian teams as the “who gives a s**t about you, we’re trying to sell the game in warmer climates with no hockey tradition or knowledge of the game what-so-ever”.

I’m not whining, I’m just pointing out facts. And venting! Me thinks it helps.

Detroit fans have it so easy. I can easily list 29 other teams whose fans have it way worse than Wings fans do.

The end.

You know, what would be nice and interesting is that instead of some All Star game that nobody really cares about the league could hold some sort of tournament. I’m not sure if they could do a mini-olympic style thing but an all star game is boring. It lacks passion and pride IMO. Start a tournament on say a Wednesday and have the final game on Sunday. More games, more tickets sold, interest from the corporate world..maybe you wouldn’t see so many players wanting to opt out..just a thought.

I don’t think anyone would want to play 3 in 6 nights on their vacation, especially when they don’t mean anything.

I did like when they used to have the skillz competition open to non-all-stars. Grabner/Helm/Raymond would be a more interesting fastest skater contest than Hartnell/Perry/Iggy. And there are some guys with better wristers and shootout moves than the guys who made it. Ryder and Ribeiro come to mind.

Actually, I’d much rather watch a week of skills competition elimination rounds than 2 hours of ASG.
