from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,
The last line of defence should never be your first concern.
The Vancouver Canucks are in a better place with goaltending depth because the NHL club learned the hard way last season that whatever can go wrong — indifferent play, injuries, sickness and gambling with the waiver wire — will go wrong and leave you exposed.
The plan to pair the progressive Jacob Markstrom with the potential of Thatcher Demko to form an enviable Pacific Division tandem, has finally come to fruition and could be the catalyst to chase a playoff position next season.
If Markstrom’s 60-game workload is reduced by five or six to keep the starter fresh while providing Demko with at least 25 starts to grow his game at this level, the result could be a win-win scenario in the crease and the standings.
