No NHL Hearing On Nash Hit Brings Reaction From The Hockey World

Talk like this has been going on all day...
from Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy.
NHL Department of Player Safety chief Brendan Shanahan called Rick Nash of the New York Rangers after Nash’s controversial hit on Tomas Kopecky on Tuesday night.
“It was a rotten hit,” Shanahan said he told Nash.
But not a suspension. "There are lots of hits that we don’t like," he said.
“We don’t like this hit. It absolutely should have been a two [minute minor], and probably should have been a five,” said Shanahan, in a phone interview on Friday.

I don’t agree with Shanahan here, but I think I take more issue with Lupul’s tweet. It makes him look like a whiny little runt. Waaaaah, I got suspended, Ricky didn’t, waaaah.

Agreed shanetx and if you really want whiny, click on Damien Cox’s twitter.

Paul, you could say that about Cox’s Twitter feed and columns about any and every topic, including kicking puppies. That man is a professional, “Everybody else sucks and I’m saying that because I don’t like myself and don’t want any of you to know!” bitch-and-moan machine. Maybe THE bitch-and-moan machine.

Personally, put me square on team Shanny.
“We suspend this many games for X, Y and Z. If he does X AND Y, it’s additive. If he’s a repeat offender we add A games, then B games, then B+15. If the guy’s hurt we add another C games. Anything outside that, we’re not going to get overly worked up about and just ad lib it on gut reactions”
It isn’t a perfect system, but it’s better and fairer than the Campbell flowchart. A lot better. And a lot fairer.
Even still, a bunch of journalists who never even played road hockey will go for the jugular. Tough job, but I appreciate the work he’s doing.

it’s exactly wheel of justice. As time has gone on the suspensions have become more random. Another couple of years and we will be wishing for Campbell’s flow chart again. The punishment Czar needs to be a one year job, and if your a former player you should recuse yourself from any incidents involving those former teams.
and get rid of the injury requirement….what a crock.
