from Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News,
Jim Montgomery will be the third coach to try to turn the Benn-Seguin combination into a winning parlay for the playoffs. Lindy Ruff got this team to the second round in 2016 when Seguin was injured for all but one playoff game. Otherwise, the pair made one trip to the playoffs in 2014 but lost in six games to Anaheim.
Seguin drank from the Stanley Cup as a 19 year old in Boston. He has gone on to play in All-Star Games, buy Mike Modano's house and become a star in Dallas. But he hasn't played hockey in May here, let alone June.
It's on GM Jim Nill, who did little this off-season to improve the club, to see that this absence from Seguin's resume doesn't last much longer. And since San Jose traded Thurday for defenseman Erik Karlsson, an elite player the Stars had pursued, signing Seguin is just the beginning of Nill's task to make this team competitive.
