from Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette,
Not surprisingly, Max Pacioretty was swarmed by the media when the Canadiens’ locker room opened up after Saturday night’s 2-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Pacioretty had just completed an entire month without scoring a single goal. The captain’s last goal came on Nov. 30 in a 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings. In the 12 games since then, his hat-trick has been zip, nada, zilch.
While Pacioretty was staring into the bright TV lights and trying yet again to come up with words to explain his scoring futility — he has one goal in the last 21 games — defenceman Jordie Benn was sitting alone in his stall, a man who appeared lost in thought and his beard.
“There’s no words to explain it,” Benn said about the Canadiens’ four-game losing streak — during which they have scored only three goals — while Pacioretty kept talking a few feet away. “I don’t know … that’s all I got. I got no idea.”
“I think everybody in here’s pretty pissed off at this point,” Benn added. “If you weren’t pissed off before, there’s something wrong with you. Obviously, any athlete in any league hates losing. Obviously, we want to win for our fans and win for our team and it’s an honour to put this jersey on. We’re sick of it now.”
