I wonder if he is going to have problems getting into Canada, as drunk driving is a felony in Ontario, living on the boarder I know several people who can not get into Canada because of there Drunk Driving charges.

Although I believe you can pay some big fine and get an exemption.

I’d complain about preferential treatment, but it seems that a DUI gets you absolutely nothing any more, anywhere.

Yeah,  Unfortunately, DUI penalties are much lighter than they should be.  My best friend’s father was killed by a drunk driver in New York state recently.  The driver had children in the car with her, which makes the DUI a felony. It was the driver’s second offense, there was a fatality and another severe injury caused by the accident.  Of course the drunk driver was uninjured.
She hasn’t been sentenced yet, but the DA has pretty much stated that the maximum penalty for a second offense felony DUI including vehicular manslaughter = 7 years.

Khabibulin is getting off really easy here, and he’s kind of being a dick appealing the sentence.  He made a stupid mistake, and he was lucky that nobody was hurt or killed.

He should take his slap on the wrist like a man.
