Crickets on the hit from behind that McDavid laid on Oduya the other night though.

Couldn’t have the new face of the league suspended for his first home game now could we.

I’ve heard quite a bit about that one but haven’t seen it. I think that if Oduya had gotten hurt, it would’ve been called in. :/

Nesterov doesn’t really seem to hit him that hard, or with malign intent.

Nesterov is making a good hockey hit, that ends badly because Stuff Happens.

Injury or not, that’s a piss poor decision by McDavid and should have had a consequence.

Both Nesterov and McDavid should’ve been penalized, but I don’t believe either should face anything beyond that.

The really sad thing about the video that I posted is that if you pause it at :46 seconds the referee is right at the bottom of the screen looking at the whole thing.

Neither hit was really bad but both should receive punishment.

Nesterov’s hit was mostly bad luck. McKenzie turned just slight to make it a hit from behind instead on shoulder impact. The problem is where the hit occurred. Its the danger zone (sing it) where a player is too far from the boards and not enough in open ice. Players need to be taught that hitting in that zone is dangerous.

McDavid’s hit looked a little worse as he could clearly see Oduya’s number.

Assuming its a first offense for both, I’d issue a fine. Although I wouldn’t be upset if they both got a game. Need to get this stuff out of the game ASAP and if that means escalating discipline that might look harsh in comparison to old calls, do it. It’s a new season. Now is the perfect time to establish order.
