from David Pollak of Working the Corners,
While virtually everybody was focused on Kyle Wellwood and Ben Eager this morning, Antero Niittymaki suffered a lower body injury and has been placed on injured reserve.
And because the Sharks could not get one of their own goaltenders in the minors here in time for tonight’s game, Jordan White — a netminder with the University of British Columbia — will be serving as Antti Niemi’s backup.

This time, I did see Niittymaki at his stall, but we didn’t talk. He didn’t show any outward signs of being hurt and he wasn’t surrounded by the training staff.
It sure does sound like the Sharks are waiting to pounce on Nabby, once we sign him. Didn’t they already claim Wellwood from the Blues via waiver too?

SAN JOSE – Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed goaltender Jordan White to a one-game amateur tryout. White will be in uniform tonight when the Sharks play the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
White currently plays for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (CIS). This season, he has posted a 7-11 record in 18 games, posting a 3.51 goals-against average and an .876 save percentage.
The six-foot-two, 175-pound native of Surrey, B.C. is currently in his second season with UBC.
In a related move, goaltender Antero Niittymaki was placed on injured reserve with a lower body injury.

The rumored contract between Detroit and Nabakov might fit in the cap space the Sharks have remaining. It would give them a legitimate option in goal to replace Niittymaki.
