OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has re-signed forward Nick Foligno to a two-year deal.
Foligno, 22, finished his third National Hockey League season with the Senators with nine goals, a career-high 17 assists and 51 penalty minutes in 61 games. He missed seven games in December after a right knee injury and missed 13 games after breaking his right leg in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Jan. 30. In six playoff games against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he recorded one assist and two penalty minutes.

Foligno didn’t really wow anyone last year, and a lot of Ottawa fans are currently paying more attention to Peter Regin, who started to come into his own especially in the playoffs. It remains to be seen if Foligno has more to give, or has topped out. The injury plagued season he had last year might not have been the best indicator.
Rumour flying around is that the contract is worth around $875k in the first year, $1.5 in the second for an AAV of around $1.2 million. If that’s the case, the team probably believes Foligno has yet to reach his full potential.
