Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf, who led NHL rookie defensemen in scoring with nine points (three goals, six assists), including two game-winning goals, and logged more than 20 minutes of ice time per game (20:08) as the Flames went 10-2-1, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November. Phaneuf edged Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby (10-4--14 in 14 games) and defenseman Ryan Whitney (0-9--9 in 14 games), Ottawa Senators goaltender Ray Emery (4-0-0, 2.25 GAA, one shutout), New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (4-1-0, 2.58 GAA), Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin (7-5--12 in 13 games) and Colorado Avalanche right wing Marek Svatos (7-6--13 in 15 games) for the award.
