NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says cap will go up, Thrashers reports are ‘wrong’

SportsBusiness Journal’s Liz Mullen is “Tweeting” from a morning set of addresses from the general counsels of each of the big sports leagues at the “Sports Lawyers Association’s conference in Washington, DC, and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has stated, um…the obvious:

NHL Dep Commish Bill Daly eying Mon. Jan. 2 for Winter Classic b/c “expect Sunday, Jan. 2 the NFL will be playing.”
...
NHL Deputy Commish’s Bill Daly: League expects leaguewide revenues may be close to $3 Billion this year
...
#NHL Dep Commish Bill Daly: “It appears our salary cap will be going up.” Projects new cap will be $60.5M to $63.5M, up from $59.4M this yr.
...
NHL Deputy Commish Bill Daly “Media was wrong on all counts” on recent reports on re-location of Atlanta Thrashers.
...
Talking to #NHL Deputy Commish about this year’s record revenue growth. Last year NHL revenue $2.7B, he’s predicting this season to be $2.9B+

So the cap may go up to $63.5 million if the NHLPA chooses to implement its 5% inflator, and the Thrashers are still the Thrashers, period. Remind me again why the NHL has a revenue-sharing program and has seriously considered relocating two teams to my beloved Winnipeg, which remains the Green Bay of the NHL?

Update: AaronLerner14 offers this about the Kovalchuk fandango:

NHL was inclined to reject second Kovalchuk contract as well but decided to put rules in place going forward with the PA instead. #sla2011
