From Postmedia News:
The NHL is denying reports Wednesday that the Phoenix Coyotes will relocate to Winnipeg after they are eliminated from the playoffs.
According to fan590.com, Sportsnet Radio FAN 590’s Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean were told by multiple sources that the move is imminent.
However, in an e-mail to Postmedia News, National Hockey League deputy commissioner Bill Daly denied the team will soon uproot from Glendale, Arizona, and move to the Manitoba capital.
“The report is untrue. No decisions have been made at this point in time, and there has not been a timetable set for making that decision,” Daly wrote. “We are still continuing in our efforts to effectuate a sale of the franchise in Glendale.”

Seems fitting the Wings could send the coyotes back to Winnipeg, just like when the Wings beat the jets in the last game in Winnipeg and sent the jets to the dessert. Almost as if were destiny.

I heard the interview.
They had Gretzky on, Wayne said the longer it goes the worse it is for the Yotes staying.
He then said maybe a long playoff run would help them out and change the minds of people.
Then both Kypreos and Doug MacLean chimed in they heard last night they would be moving after eliminated.
One even mentioned at one time the NHL was thinking of buying the bonds, but then the radio discussion sort of died…

Unfortunately, as we all know, Bill Daly’s word is about as good as a Kris Draper slapshot.
Not fair…Draper’s slapshots are dead-on accurate - each one goes right to the same place. Maybe it’s better to say Daly’s word is about as useless as a Kris Draper slapshot.
The truth is pretty obvious though…the NHL’s not going to say anything that could harm the Yote’s playoff attendance. Afterall, who cares if they make a Cup run if the banner gets raised in some other city.

That’s at least the third time they’ve reported it. Based on “sources”, same old same old.
I’d like to “throw the snake” into their broadcast booth.
I agree with Gabriel about the league not wanting to say anything while there are games still being played.

To me, breaking this kind of story on the opening night of the SCP, tells the typical US fan, that the league is a bass ackwards operation

Gotta love Daly..“we’re still continuing in our efforts to effectuate a sale of the franchise in Glendale” In this instance “effectuate” means fuch up. This is the same party that gave a drop dead date of Jan. 1 2011 to the board of governors last year. How’s that timetable working for you Billy Boy. And the dance goes on.

I don’t know how long the league and the city of Glenville can continue to subsidize this team for the benefit of 14,000 fans. It REALLY sucks for the few Coyotes fans and I really feel for them, but they’re drawing AHL numbers. Give them an AHL franchise. The Manitoba Moose would need to move somewhere.

You can find a media story out of Canada every week saying the end is near. They have been saying if for over 2 years. They figure if you say lies over and over they become truths.

Well, if the team really *is* moving to Winnipeg as soon as their playoff run is over, and the NHL couldn’t keep it quiet for a couple weeks or months, they should think about hiring someone in their office slightly more able to keep a secret than a collection of giggly middle school girls.

They figure if you say lies over and over they become truths.
And they ARE such blatant, unbelieveable lies, aren’t they?

Draper’s slapshots are dead-on accurate - each one goes right to the same place.
Well to be really technical… they’re dead-on precise. They’re only dead-on accurate if the logo is what he’s aiming for.
Basically, the NHL can’t admit any truth to this and still expect tickets to be sold in Phoenix for the remainder of the playoff. Deny, deny, deny until it’s true.
