Sources say at least a couple of NHL head coaches have recently been fined unspecified amounts by the league for making critical remarks about the game, the new rules and/or officiating. Some other club team personnel - coaches and general managers - have reportedly been given written warnings from the league and put on notice that they too could be fined if criticism continues. There is speculation that one of the coaches who has been initially targeted for a fine is Toronto's Pat Quinn, who was not thrilled with the new rules or their application, and bluntly said so, after Saturday's loss to Philadelphia.
update 4:15pm, via the CP,
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Pat Quinn and Anaheim Mighty Ducks coach Randy Carlyle were both fined undisclosed amounts by the NHL on Wednesday for “recent public comments critical of the game and league officiating.”
The league won’t tolerate its own GMs and coaches dumping on their own game, especially in a year when the game is back after a year off the ice. While Quinn and Carlyle were the first to get fined, other coaches and GMs have been warned by the league.
