The NHL's 2006 Official Guide and Record Book comes out next week and will feature two different covers.
The one available to hockey fans in bookstores will have Mario Lemieux and phenom Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins on the cover while the edition sent to media and team officials will have the Stanley Cup and 30 team logos.
The guide traditionally has a player from the defending Stanley Cup champions on the cover and that's why Dave Andreychuk of the Tampa Bay Lightning graced last year's edition for the wiped-out 2004-05 season.
In addition, the Calgary market will have a special edition cover of the guide, marking the Flames' 25th season playing in that city.
The NHL wisely decided to wait as long as possible to go to print with this year's guide in order to get the rosters as updated as can be after a flurry of player moves over the last two months.
