STAMKOS, KUCHEROV CONTINUE SCORCHING STARTS
Steven Stamkos
(1-3—4) and Nikita Kucherov (2-1—3) each extended their season-opening point streaks to nine games – combining for a goal just 96 seconds into the contest – to power the Lightning to a 7-1-1 record, equaling their best nine-game start to a season in franchise history (also 7-1-1 in 2003-04).

* Elias notes that Stamkos (3-15—18) and Kucherov (10-6—16) – who rank first and second, respectively, in League scoring – are the second pair of teammates in the past 24 years to start a campaign on simultaneous point streaks of at least nine games; Doug Weight (4-9—13 in 9 GP) and Pavol Demitra (7-5—12 in 9 GP) combined for the feat with the Blues in 2001-02.

* Stamkos, who also collected 18 points in Tampa Bay’s first nine games in 2010-11 (8-10—18; 2.00), became the fourth different player in the past 21 years to average at least two points per game through his team’s first nine contests in a season. The others: Jaromir Jagr in 1999-00 (8-10—18; 2.00), Mario Lemieux in 2002-03 (5-15—20; 2.22) and Thomas Vanek in 2012-13 (8-11—19; 2.11).

* Stamkos scored his 113th career power-play goal to become the franchise’s all-time leader and also became the third Lightning player to record 600 career points with the club (324-276—600 in 595 GP). Stamkos ranks second in the NHL in goals and power-play goals since entering the League in 2008-09, behind only Alex Ovechkin (405 G, 156 PPG in that span).

* Elias adds that Stamkos, who also leads the League in assists, became the fourth different player in the past 24 years to record at least 15 assists in his team’s first nine games of a season.

* Kucherov, meanwhile, shares the League lead in goals after tying for second in that category with 40 in 2016-17. He and Stamkos are two games shy of matching the franchise record for longest point streak to begin a season, a mark set by Martin St. Louis in 2009-10 (3-12—15 in 11 GP).

GOLDEN KNIGHTS EMERGE WITH ANOTHER OT WIN, CONTINUE RECORD START
William Karlsson
(1-1—2) scored with 23.8 seconds remaining in overtime and goaltenders Malcolm Subban(37 saves) and Oscar Dansk (10 saves) made a combined 47 stops to help the expansion Golden Knightsimprove to 6-1-0, a record that includes three overtime victories.

* The Golden Knights became the first club in the 100-year history of the NHL to win six of its first seven games in its inaugural season. Vegas also shattered the expansion era benchmark for fewest games to reach six wins by a club in its inaugural season — the Kings set the previous mark in 1967-68 by improving to 6-4-3 in their 13th contest.

* Dansk, who was selected 31st overall by the Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL Draft, was credited for the win in his League debut. Subban (2-0-0) also registered his first career wins this week, while Marc-Andre Fleury (3-1-0) registered the club's first three victories.

* Reilly Smith (1-2—3) factored on all three Golden Knights goals to register the first three-point game in club history and fourth of his NHL career.

LATE GAME HEROICS
The Kings, Flyers and Blackhawks each earned wins on Saturday after receiving late go-ahead goals. Overall, there have been 11 go-ahead goals scored in the final five minutes of regulation this season.

* Anze Kopitar (2-1—3) scored with 2:14 remaining in regulation and Dustin Brown (1-3—4) matched a career high for points in a game as the Kings improved to 6-0-1 to remain the only team without a regulation loss in 2017-18. This marks the second time that the club has started a season with a point streak of at least seven games (also 1995-96: 4-0-3); their 13 points are a franchise record through seven contests.

* Wayne Simmonds (1-1—2) tallied the go-ahead marker with 2:15 left in the third period to lift the Flyers to victory. Simmonds shares the League lead with four game-winning goals this season, equaling his total from 2016-17 (82 GP) and two shy of matching his career high set in 2014-15 (75 GP).

* Lance Bouma (1-1—2) scored with 4:24 remaining in regulation – his first point with Chicago – to help theBlackhawks improve to 13-1-2 in their past 16 games against the Coyotes dating to Jan. 20, 2013, including eight consecutive wins.

The Sabres, meanwhile, received a tying goal from Evander Kane with 2:08 remaining in the third period to help them overcome a three-goal deficit en route to an overtime victory in Boston. It marked the 14th tying goal scored in the final five minutes of regulation this season – and sixth in the past five days.
