The Golden Knights (3-0-0) and Devils (3-0-0) look to extend their season-opening winning streaks when they face the Red Wings and Capitals, respectively, on Friday.
* The Golden Knights – already the first club in the 100-year history of the NHL to begin its inaugural season with three straight wins – will look to push their streak to four when they host the Red Wings at the second-ever regular-season game at T-Mobile Arena. Per Elias, the longest win streak by a team at any point in its inaugural season is five games, set by the Rangers in 1926-27 and matched by the Oilers in 1979-80. Elias adds that Vegas forward James Neal (5-0—5 in 3 GP) is just the second player in the expansion era (since 1967-68) to score the game-winning goal in each of his team’s first three games of any season; no player has ever achieved the feat in each of his team’s opening four contests.
* The Devils – who aim to start a season with four consecutive victories for the fourth time in franchise history (last: 4-0-0 in 1995-96) – host the Capitals at Prudential Center. New Jersey has combined for 16 goals through its first three games of the season, led by rookies Jesper Bratt (3-3—6) and Will Butcher (0-5—5). Per Elias, their 16-goal output is the second-highest such total through three games in franchise history (17 in 1991-92); their highest total through four games is 21 goals, set in 1991-92 and matched in 1993-94.
