CROSBY SCORES 30TH GOAL, NEARS 1,000 CAREER POINTS IN WIN
Sidney Crosby
(2-1—3) scored twice to become the first player to reach the 30-goal mark this season and lead the Penguins to their seventh win in their past nine games.

* Crosby, who was playing in his 45th game of the season, reached the 30-goal mark for the eighth time in his NHL career. Elias notes that Crosby has scored 30 goals in 45 or fewer games once before – in 2010-11, when he reached the mark in only 37 contests.

* Crosby ranks second in League scoring with 30-29—59 this season, one point back of Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (18-42—60 in 54 GP). The Penguins captain also sits three points shy of becoming the third player in franchise history to record 1,000 career points (368-629—997 in 752 GP).

GRANLUND, NYLANDER NET HAT TRICKS IN VICTORIES
Wild forward Mikael Granlund (3-1—4) and Maple Leafs forward William Nylander (3-0—3) scored their first career hat tricks to propel their clubs to victories:

* Granlund established career highs for goals and points in a game to help the Western Conference-leading Wild (34-12-5, 73 points) improve to 10-3-0 in their past 13 games. Granlund extended his franchise-record point streak to 12 games (5-12—17) to establish the longest such run in the NHL this season.

* Nylander scored two goals in a span of 68 seconds to complete his hat trick – the third by a Maple Leafs player this season – and help Toronto halt a three-game slide. Nylander became the second Maple Leafs rookie to score a hat trick this season, following Auston Matthews’ four-goal performance on opening night. Elias notes only one other season in which two Maple Leafs rookies scored hat tricks: 1926-27, when Ace Bailey and Bill Carson each had one.

DID YOU KNOW?
Brothers Trevor (1-0—1) and James van Riemsdyk (2-0—2) scored the game-winning goals for the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs, respectively. Elias notes that brothers tallied decisive markers on the same day for the first time since Jan. 15, 2011, when Jordan and Eric Staal combined for the feat with the Penguins and Hurricanes respectively.

CARTER, BUDAJ POWER KINGS TO FIFTH CONSECUTIVE WIN
Jeff Carter scored at 2:35 of overtime and Peter Budaj (17 saves) registered his third shutout in his last four starts as the Kings picked up their fifth consecutive win.

* Carter ranks second in the NHL with 27 goals this season and paces all players with nine game-winning goals and four overtime tallies. Elias notes that Carter matched the single season franchise record for overtime goals and is one shy of tying the club record of 10 game-winning goals in a season, a mark set by Charlie Simmer in 1980-81.

* Budaj recorded his League-leading seventh shutout of the season and extended his personal win streak to five games (0.60 GAA, .975 SV%, 3 SO).

LOOSE PUCKS
Barry Trotz earned his 693rd career win to pass Dick Irvin (692) for sixth on the NHL’s all-time list among head coaches, as the League-leading Capitals (35-11-6, 76 points) improved to 15-2-1 in their last 18 contests . . . Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek (42 saves) and Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner (37 saves) each recorded their first shutout of the season . . . Taylor Hall scored twice as the Devils extended their road point streak to nine games (8-0-1), including six consecutive wins . . . Ron Hainsey (2-0—2) recorded his first multi-goal game since Dec. 2, 2008 to help the Hurricanes secure their third win in a row . . . Ducks defenseman Brandon Montour (6 GP) and Devils defenseman Seth Helgeson (48 GP) each scored their first NHL goal . . . Drew Doughty (1-7—8 in 7 GP), Patrick Marleau (7-3—10, in 6 GP), Jamie Benn (5-3—8 in 6 GP), Anze Kopitar (2-5—7 in 5 GP), Blake Wheeler (1-6—7 in 5 GP), Patrice Bergeron (3-5—8 in 5 GP) and Brad Marchand (6-4—10 in 5 GP) also extended point streaks . . . The Predators acquired forward Vernon Fiddler from the Devils in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft . . . Martin Brodeur and Al MacInnis, two of the 100 Greatest NHL Players, visited the NHL Centennial Fan Arena in St. Louis on Saturday . . . The Capitals will host Fatima Al Ali, a member of the United Arab Emirates’ women’s national hockey team, this week as part of Hockey is for Everyone month. The Avalanche and Islandershosted initiatives during home games on Saturday.
