RED WINGS EDGE BLACKHAWKS IN SEESAW AFFAIR
Darren Helm scored the decisive goal in the sixth round of the shootout to help the Red Wings clip the Blackhawks in their first meeting since the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals. Detroit erased deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to pick up their second win over Chicago in their last 11 regular-season meetings at Joe Louis Arena.

* Henrik Zetterberg (0-3—3) posted three assists for the third time this season. He now ranks seventh on Detroit’s all-time assists list with 436 in his NHL career, two ahead of Norm Ullman.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Zetterberg is the first Red Wings player to collect three or more assists versus the Blackhawks since the 2009 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, when both he and current Blackhawk Marian Hossa recorded three helpers in a 6-4 victory at Wrigley Field.

* The Red Wings have won three of their past four shootouts after a 0-6 start to the season.

PENGUINS RIGHT THE SHIP AT HOME
The Penguins scored three unanswered goals to pick up their 14th win in their past 15 games at CONSOL Energy Center. Jussi Jokinen (2-0—2) posted his third multi-goal game of the season and now has 6-7—13 over his last 11 outings.

* Sidney Crosby scored his 26th goal of the season. He leads the NHL with 69 points, seven ahead of Islanders captain John Tavares (23-39—62), who he faces tonight on Long Island.

* Evgeni Malkin collected 1-1—2 and now has at least one point in 23 of his past 26 games, totaling 10-30—40 over that span.

* All six Pittsburgh defensemen recorded at least one point. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time six Penguins blueliners found the scoresheet in the same game was on Dec. 17, 2011, in an 8-3 victory over the Sabres.

* Matt Niskanen registered two assists to extend his point streak to five games (2-5—7), matching a career long.

* The Penguins went 2-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. They lead the League in both categories this season, posting a 24.7% conversion rate with the man advantage and 88.2% success rate on the penalty kill.

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM
Jiri Tlusty (1-1—2) scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:10 remaining in regulation to power the Hurricanes to their third consecutive victory over the Flyers.

* According to the Associated Press, the Hurricanes/Whalers franchise last won three straight games versus the Flyers from Dec. 22, 1990-April 15, 1992, when they reeled off six consecutive victories.

* Anton Khudobin (22 saves) improved to 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in two games versus Philadelphia this season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is just the fifth goaltender in Hurricanes/Whalers history to record two or more wins against the Flyers in one season, joining Mike Liut (1989-90), Peter Sidorkiewicz (1990-91), Frank Pietrangelo (1991-92) and Arturs Irbe (1999-00).

* Alexander Semin scored for the third straight game (4-0—4), his first such streak in the regular season since March 6-9, 2011 (3-1—4).

LOOSE PUCKS
Karri Ramo made 30 saves to lead the Flames to their fifth consecutive victory over the Coyotes at Scotiabank Saddledome . . . Penguins forward Chris Kunitz recorded an assist to reach the 50-point plateau for the sixth time in his NHL career . . . Coyotes forward Antoine Vermette scored his second shorthanded goal in as many games . . . Flames forward Sean Monahan recorded his team-leading 14th goal of the season, which ranks third among rookies . . . Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa posted his 21st goal of the season to extend his point streak to six games (6-2—8) . . . Flyers forwards Wayne Simmonds (2-6—8) and Scott Hartnell (2-5—7) both stretched their point streaks to five games . . . Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle collected a helper to push his assist/point streak to five games (0-6—6) . . . Flames captain Mark Giordano registered an assist to extend his point streak to five games (2-3—5) . . . Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad played in his 100th NHL game . . . The Penguins improved to 26-2-1 when scoring first this season, including a 17-0-0 mark at home . . . The Rangers acquired defenseman Kevin Klein from the Predators in exchange for defenseman Michael Del Zotto.
