CANADIENS EXPLODE FOR 10 GOALS, CONTINUE HOME DOMINANCE
The Canadiens raced to a 6-0 lead in the opening 13:47 of the first period en route to a 10-1 victory, their first double-digit performance since Feb. 24, 1990 vs. PIT (11-1 W).

* At 19-6-3 (41 points), the Canadiens regained sole possession of first place in the NHL standings. They also improved to 14-1-1 (29 points) this season at Bell Centre, the top home record in the League.

* Elias notes that the Canadiens scored six goals in the opening period for the first time since Dec. 17, 1992 at QUE (8-3 W). Montreal’s six goals in 13:47 were 3:12 shy of its franchise record for fastest six goals to begin a game (10:35), set on March 10, 1951 vs. CHI (12-2 W).

* Max Pacioretty (4-1—5) scored a career-high four goals and equaled his career high of five points from April 4, 2014 at OTT (3-2—5). Linemate Tomas Plekanec added a career-high four assists.

CLUBS EXTEND WINNING STREAKS . . .
Several teams secured victories to extend their winning streaks:

* Brayden Schenn registered his second career hat trick – including the go-ahead goal with 2:15 left in regulation – to lead the Flyers to their eighth consecutive win, their longest such run since Jan. 6-19, 2002 (also 8-0-0). Elias notes that Schenn – who scored all three of his goals on the man advantage – matched a single-game franchise record with three power-play goals, last achieved by Scott Hartnell on Jan. 19, 2008 at NYI.

* Knotted at 2-2, the Blue Jackets scored four unanswered goals in the third period to extend their point streak to eight games (7-0-1), including six consecutive wins. At 17-5-4 (38 points), Columbus continued its best start to a season in franchise history in terms of wins and points. Sergei Bobrovsky (28 SV) improved to 6-0-1 in his last seven appearances (1.56 GAA, .939 SV%), including five straight wins.

* Dougie Hamilton (2-1—3), Mikael Backlund (1-2—3) and Matthew Tkachuk (0-3—3) each collected three points to power the Flames to their sixth straight win. Hamilton posted his third career multi-goal game and second of the season (also Oct. 28 vs. OTT: 2-1—3), while Johnny Gaudreau (0-2—2) added multiple points for the fourth time in as many contests since returning from injury on Dec. 4 (2-6—8).

* Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each scored twice to help the Penguins overcome a 3-1 deficit and pick up their fifth consecutive victory. Crosby extended his point streak to seven games (6-6—12); he leads the NHL with 20 goals this season (22 GP). Malkin notched his 110th and 111th career power-play goals to pass Jaromir Jagr and Kevin Stevens (110) for sole possession of second place in franchise history.

. . . OTHERS SNAP LOSING SKIDS
Other clubs posted wins to halt their respective slides:

* Brendan Perlini scored his first career NHL goal (4 GP) to help the Coyotes snap a six-game losing streak (0-3-3). Elias notes that Perlini (Guildford, U.K.) became the first British-born rookie to score a goal since Kevin Brown (Birmingham, U.K.) in 1994-95 (w/ LAK).

* Roberto Luongo made 37 saves against the Canucks, his former club, as the Panthers ended a four-game slide (0-2-2). Luongo earned his 446th career win to move within one of tying Terry Sawchuk (447) for fifth place in NHL history.

* Rookies Auston Matthews, Zach Hyman and Connor Brown each scored to help the Maple Leafs snap a three-game skid (0-2-1). Matthews, who has six goals in his past seven outings, ranks second among rookies with 12-8—20 this season (26 GP).

LOOSE PUCKS
