WESTERN CONFERENCE CLUBS CLIMB DIVISION STANDINGS
The Blues (16-8-4, 36 points) and Ducks (14-9-5, 33 points) earned wins to gain ground in the battle for first place in their respective divisions:

* Vladimir Tarasenko (0-3—3) collected three assists and Robby Fabbri (2-0—2) scored twice as the Blues handed the Devils their first regulation home loss of the season and improved to 5-1-1 in their last seven games. With the win, St. Louis moved within two points of Chicago (17-8-4, 38 points) for top spot in the Central Division. Tarasenko ranks second in the NHL with 13-18—31 (28 GP), trailing only Connor McDavid (12-26—38).

* The Ducks surrendered a 2-0 lead, but Hampus Lindholm scored his first goal of the season with 5:38 remaining in regulation to power Anaheim to a 5-1-1 record in their last seven games. The Ducks leapfrogged the Sharks (15-11-1, 31 points) and Flames (15-13-2, 32 points) to move into a tie with the Oilers (14-11-5, 33 points) for first place in the Pacific Division.

FIRST CAREER GOALS POWER METROPOLITAN WIN STREAKS
Blue Jackets forward Lukas Sedlak (23 GP) and Capitals forward Jakub Vrana (5 GP) each scored their first career goal to help their respective teams extend winning streaks:

* Sedlak, a sixth-round selection (158th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, added an assist to lead the Blue Jackets to their fifth consecutive victory and a 6-0-1 mark in their last seven games. Columbus improved to 16-5-4 (36 points), continuing their best start to a season in franchise history in terms of wins and points.

* Vrana, a first-round selection (13th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft, scored the game-winning goal at 12:39 of the second period to guide the Capitals to their third consecutive win. Nicklas Backstrom (0-2—2) collected two assists and leads the club with 8-16—24 this season (26 GP).

GOALTENDERS BACKSTOP RANGERS, WILD TO EXTRA TIME WINS
The Rangers and Wild each required more than 60 minutes to secure wins:

* Nick Holden scored just 55 seconds into overtime to lead the Rangers to their third win in their last four games. At 19-9-1 (39 points), the Rangers moved into a tie with the idle Canadiens (18-6-3, 39 points) for the top record in the NHL. Antti Raanta (26 saves) picked up his first shutout of the season and improved to 7-1-0 (1.83 GAA, .939 SV%, 1 SO), allowing no more than two goals in each of his last nine appearances.

* The Wild surrendered a game-tying goal with 4:39 left in regulation, but Eric Staal scored the decisive marker in a six-round shootout as Minnesota improved to 5-1-2 in their last eight games, including three consecutive wins. Devan Dubnyk (25 saves) denied four Edmonton attempts in the shootout to improve to 8-1-0 in nine career appearances against his former club.

LOOSE PUCKS
Blues goaltender Jake Allen (20 saves) improved to 9-1-0 in his last 10 appearances (2.16 GAA, .922 SV%) . . . Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky (32 saves) improved to 5-0-1 in his last six appearances (1.48 GAA, .940 SV%), including four straight wins . . . Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl (1-0—1) has scored six times in his last six games (6-3—9) . . . Sharks defenseman Brent Burns (1-0—1) has scored in three straight games (3-0—3) and leads all blueliners with 12 goals this season (27 GP) . . . Devils forward Taylor Hall (0-1—1) skated in the 400th game of his NHL career and has collected 3-5—8 in his last four contests . . . The Coyotes acquired center Peter Hollandin a trade with the Maple Leafs for a conditional pick in the 2018 NHL Draft . . . Forward Cal Clutterbuck agreed to terms on a five-year contract with the Islanders . . . The Red Wings observed a moment of silence for Jamie Daniels, son of team play-by-play broadcaster Ken Daniels . . . The Blackhawks honored former forward Steve Larmerin a pre-game ceremony at United Center . . . The NHL and the Kings introduced a rendering of the NHL Centennial-themed float that will make its debut in the renowned 128th Rose Parade presented by Honda in Pasadena on Jan. 2, 2017.

FOUR-GAME DOCKET SET FOR HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA
Hockey Night in Canada begins with three contests at 7 p.m. ET: The Maple Leafs visit the Bruins in an Original Six matchup; the Canadiens aim to improve to 14-1-1 at Bell Centre when they host the Avalanche; and Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo faces his former team when the Canucks visit BB&T Center. In Hockey Night in Canada’s final game of the evening, the Flames attempt to extend their win streak to six games when they host Patrik Laine and the Jets.

PENGUINS FACE LIGHTNING IN PLAYOFF REMATCH
The Penguins face the Lightning for the first time since their 2016 Eastern Conference Final series, which Pittsburgh won in seven games. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (18-11—29) and Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (13-16—29) are both tied for third in League scoring this season, trailing only Connor McDavid (12-26—38) and Vladimir Tarasenko (13-18—31).
