BLACKHAWKS EDGE BRUINS IN SHOOTOUT
Patrick Kane scored the winner in the shootout as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 in their first meeting since last year’s Stanley Cup Final. The Blackhawks have points in 15 of their last 16 outings (9-1-6) and trail the Western Conference–leading Anaheim Ducks by just four points.

Marian Hossa extended his point streak to five games (5-2—7) by scoring his 20th goal of the season to open the scoring. This is the 13th time in his career that Hossa has reached the 20-goal milestone which places him tied for fourth among active players.

*Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville earned the 692nd victory of his career to move into a tie with Dick Irvin for third all-time.

* Patrick Kane’s shootout winner was his first shootout goal of the season on his tenth attempt. He was the NHL’s only player who was scoreless in 7+ shootout tries this season.

NASH LEADS RANGERS TO VICTORY
Rick Nash scored the first two goals of the game as the New York Rangers built a 3-0 1st period lead and never looked back in a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Nash has scored goals in five of his last eight games, and he's been credited with the winning goal in each of the last four games in which he scored. He's the first Rangers player with a four-game streak of that kind in one season since Tom Poti in 2003-04.

* The Rangers have now won nine of their last 12 games (9-2-1) and six of their last seven. They have held opponents to two or fewer goals in each of the last seven games.

*Alex Ovechkin scored on the power play in the second period, it was his league leading 35th goal of the season. He is also tops in the NHL with 13 markers with the man advantage.

ROOKIES LEAD LIGHTNING OVER HURRICANES
Three different rookies, Mark Barberio, Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov, all scored as the Tampa Bay Lightning built a 3-0 first period lead on their way to a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Barberio added a goal in the second period and became the first defenseman in club history to score his first two goals in the same game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, The only other player in Lightning history to score his first two NHL goals in the same game was Steven Stamkos (Oct. 30, 2008 vs. Buffalo).

*Palat had a goal and two assists for a career-high three point game. He has 13 points (5-8) in his past 14 games and is tied for fifth in rookie scoring.

*Tyler Johnson had an assist and his 30 points (12-18) are second most in the league among rookies.

*Martin St. Louis had an assist to extend his point streak to eight games (8-4—12).

*Ben Bishop made a career-high 48 saves to earn his 24th victory of the season. With the performance, Bishop set a franchise record for most saves in a game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Antero Niittymaki previously held the record with 47 saves on March 25th, 2010 against Boston. Bishop improved to 4-0-0 in his career against Carolina.

*Tampa Bay improved to 6-1-1 in the second half of back-to-back scenarios this season.

Ryan Callahan scored the sixth shorthanded goal of his career…Brad Marchand scored two goals to extend his goal scoring streak to three games…The Rangers have outshot their opponents in 15 of their last 20 games…Brad Richards has ten points (4-6) in his last nine games…Dan Girardi had two assists to record his first multiple point game of the season…Duncan Keith picked up his 42nd assist, tops among NHL defensemen…Manny Malhotra played in his 900th NHL game…The Lightning have a six game winning streak in Carolina…Tampa Bay has won nine of its last 11 road games (9-2-0)…
