GAGNER POWERS BLUE JACKETS TO FOURTH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Sam Gagner led the offense with 2-2—4 to power the Blue Jackets to their fourth consecutive victory and a 5-0-1 mark in their last six contests.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, at 15-5-4 (34 points) the Blue Jackets are off to their best 24-game start in franchise history in terms of wins and points, besting their previous mark set in 2010-11 (14-9-1, 29 points).

* Columbus has won four consecutive games for the second time this season, with both streaks coming within their last 12 games (also Nov. 12-20: 4-0-0).

* Gagner recorded four points in a game for the first time since posting 2-2—4 on Dec. 23, 2014 at EDM w/ ARI. He has registered 10-7—17 in 23 games this season, besting his point total from 2015-16 (8-8—16 in 53 GP w/ PHI).

RUST (HAT TRICK), PENGUINS POST ANOTHER COMEBACK WIN
Trailing 4-2 in the second period, the Penguins rallied for an eventual 8-5 victory over the Senators powered by Bryan Rust’s first career hat trick (3-1—4).

* The Penguins overcame a two-goal deficit to win for the second consecutive game and sixth time in their 16 wins this season after accomplishing the feat seven times all of last season (48 wins).

* Rust’s first career hat trick included a highlight reel penalty shot goal, an even-strength marker and an empty net goal. Per Elias, he is just the second player in franchise history to record a hat trick that included a penalty shot goal. The other: Mario Lemieux, who scored five goals, five different ways (even-strength, powerplay, shorthanded, penalty shot and empty net) as part of an eight point night (5-3—8) on Dec. 31, 1988 vs. NJD.

* Evgeni Malkin (1-2—3) extended his point streak to six games (2-9—11), while Sidney Crosby scored to extend his point streak to five games (3-5—8) and regain the NHL lead with 17 goals this season.

OVERTIME HEROICS
The Bruins and Capitals both secured overtime victories on Monday:

* David Pastrnak (2-0—2) scored the game-winning tally at 1:23 of overtime to help the Bruins earn their third consecutive win and extend their overall point streak to five games (4-0-1). Pastrnak has now recorded 15 goals this season (21 GP), ranking third in the NHL and matching his career high set in 2015-16 (51 GP).

* Marcus Johansson (2-0—2) notched the game-winner at 2:38 of overtime to propel the Capitals to victory on the heels of a three-game slide (0-2-1). Johansson ranks second in the NHL with five game-winning goals this season, including two that have come in the extra frame.

Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask (27 saves) and Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky (17 saves) both recorded their 14th win of the season, matching Canadiens goaltender Carey Price for the League lead . . . Senators forward Mike Hoffman (1-0—1) extended his point streak to five games (5-3—8) . . . Blue Jackets forward Brandon Saad (0-1—1) recorded his 200th career NHL point (90-110—200 in 310 GP) . . . MCDAVID, EICHEL TO MEET IN NHL FOR SECOND TIME
The top two selections of the 2015 NHL Draft will meet for the second time in their NHL careers when Connor McDavid and the Oilers visit Jack Eichel and the Sabres. McDavid paces the League with 11-23—34 in 27 games this season, including 10 multi-point efforts. Eichel, who missed Buffalo’s first 21 games due to injury, has recorded 3-1—4, including a game-winning goal, in his first four games this season. In their only previous head-to-head matchup on March 1, McDavid scored both Oilers goals – including the overtime winner – in a 2-1 victory over the Sabres in Buffalo.
