ANDERSON BLANKS OILERS IN EMOTIONAL RETURN TO CREASE
In his first start since taking a leave of absence to be with his wife, Nicholle, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, Craig Anderson denied all 37 shots he faced to help the Senators snap Edmonton’s win streak at five games.
* Anderson, who blanked the Canucks in his last appearance on Oct. 25, picked up the 35th shutout of his NHL career and improved to 5-1-0 this season (2.46 GAA, .921 SV%, 2 SO).
* Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick (42) and Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller (36) are the only active U.S.-born goaltenders with more career shutouts than Anderson (35).
* Oilers goaltender Cam Talbotstayed on the Edmonton bench after the game to applaud an emotional Anderson when he received the game’s First Star honor.

GRABNER (HAT TRICK) POWERS RANGERS PAST LIGHTNING . . .
Michael Grabner (3-0—3) scored the third hat trick of his NHL career and first since Feb. 13, 2011 to guide the Rangers to their fourth win in their last five outings.
* Forwards J.T. Miller (1-2—3) and Kevin Hayes (0-3—3) also produced three-point efforts. Miller matched a career high with three points and Hayes established a career high with three assists.
* Antti Raanta (31 SV) improved to 21-4-4 in 33 career home appearances (1.85 GAA, .933 SV%, 4 SO).
. . . SCEVIOUR ALSO SCORES THREE IN PANTHERS WIN
Colton Sceviour (3-1—4) scored the first hat trick of his NHL career and added an assist to record a career-high four points and help the Panthers snap a three-game slide (0-3-0).
* Per Elias, Sceviour became the second player in franchise history to score an even strength, powerplay and shorthanded goal in the same game (also Nathan Horton on Dec. 14, 2009 at NYI).
SEVERAL PLAYERS KEEP STREAKS ALIVE
A number of players were able to build on impressive point streaks during Sunday’s games:
* Flyers captain Claude Giroux (1-1—2) extended his point streak to nine games (2-10—12), matching a career high last achieved Dec. 11-30, 2013 (6-11—17).
* Hurricanes forward Victor Rask (0-1—1) extended his season-opening point streak to eight games (4-6—10). Per Elias, Rask is the second player in Hurricanes/Whalers history to record at least one point in each of the team’s first eight or more games of a season, joining Hartford’s Ron Francis in 1984-85 (6-8—14 in 11 GP).
* Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh (0-1—1) extended his point streak to a career-high seven games (0-8—8). Elias notes that McDonagh became the first Rangers defenseman to record at least one assist in seven straight games since Brian Leetch from Nov. 16 – Dec. 1, 1996 (2-8—10).
* Blackhawks forward Artem Anisimov (1-0—1) extended his career-high point streak to seven games (6-5—11).
* Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner (1-1—2) extended his point streak to five games (4-5—9).
LOOSE PUCKS
Forward Kyle Okposo (2-0—2) notched both goals as the Sabres earned their second victory in as many days . . . Defenseman Brandon Manning scored a shorthanded goal with 12:00 remaining in regulation to break a 3-3 tie and power the Flyers past the Hurricanes . . . The Islanders improved to 4-2-0 at home this season with a win over the Maple Leafs . . . Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford (32 SV) picked up the 20th shutout of his NHL career . . . Capitals forward Marcus Johansson (2-0—2) recorded his second multi-goal game in as many days (also 2-1—3 on Oct. 29 at VAN) . . . Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, who tossed a stick to a young fan in Edmonton on Oct. 26, invited the fan and his family to attend the game in Calgary . . . The Islanders hosted their Hockey Fights Cancer night at Barclays Center . . . The Department of Player Safety fined Red Wings forward Steve Ott for spearing Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara . . . ICYMI: Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa was honored at United Center on Sunday for reaching the 500-goal milestone on Oct. 18 vs. PHI. While Hossa was holding his daughter Zoja during the ceremony, she playfully honked his nose . . . Predators defenseman P.K. Subban – who dressed up as musical icon Prince – was one of many NHL players in the Halloween spirit over the weekend.
