CANADIENS, RED WINGS EXTEND WIN STREAKS TO SIX GAMES
The Canadiens (7-0-1) and Red Wings (6-2-0) each extended winning streaks to six games with victories on Thursday. Montreal remains the only team without a regulation loss in 2016-17.

* Elias notes that Montreal is the first team in NHL history to win at least seven of its first eight games in three straight seasons (2014-15: 7-1-0 and 2015-16: 9-0-0). In addition, the Canadiens are just the second team to start back-to-back campaigns with at least one point in each of its first eight games, joining the Sharks (2012-13: 7-0-1 and 2013-14: 8-0-1).

* The Red Wings’ six-game winning streak equals their longest such run over the past five seasons (also Jan. 13-27, 2015). In 2011-12, Detroit posted three winning streaks of at least six games – first from Nov. 19 to Dec. 2 (7-0-0), then from Jan. 12 to 23 (7-0-0) and finally from Feb. 8 to 19 (6-0-0).

LAINE THRILLS IN JETS WIN
Forward Patrik Laine (2-0—2) posted his second career multi-goal game to help the Jets earn a split in their home-and-home set against the Stars. Laine, who capped a hat trick in overtime on Oct. 19 vs. TOR (3-0—3), shares the League lead with six goals this season.

* MUST SEE: Laine channeled his inner Teemu Selanne to celebrate his first goal of the night, while Mark Scheifele (WPG) and TylerSeguin (DAL) played a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine who would leave the ice last after warmup.

FIRST-OF-A-KIND WIN STREAK FOR KINGS
Jeff Carter scored his ninth career overtime goal to power the Kings to their fourth consecutive victory (all past regulation) on the heels of a 0-3-0 start to the season. Elias notes that the Kings have won four straight games past regulation for the first time in franchise history.

CROSBY’S WINNER GUIDES PENGUINS
Sidney Crosby (1-1—2) scored the go-ahead game-winning goal with 2:25 remaining in regulation to power the Penguins to a 5-0-1 mark at PPG Paints Arena, where they have registered each of their wins this season.

* Crosby, who also scored in his season debut on Tuesday, has registered at least one point in 22 of his past 23 regular-season games dating to Feb. 29 (13-19—32). Elias says that Crosby (340-601—941 in 709 GP) paces all active skaters with 1.33 points per game (min. 200 GP); teammate Evgeni Malkin (1.18) ranks second.

In the process, Dubnyk (63-36-9 w/ 12 SO in 112 GP) moved into third place in franchise history for wins and shutouts (tied).
