RED WINGS CELEBRATE FINAL HOME OPENER AT JOE LOUIS ARENA
Mike Green (3-0—3) netted his first career hat trick (652 GP) to lead the Red Wings to victory in their final home opener at Joe Louis Arena.

* The Red Wings, who will relocate to Little Caesars Arena for the 2017-18 season, posted an all-time record of 21-12-2 in home openers at Joe Louis Arena.

* Elias notes that Green’s hat trick – the 61st by a Detroit player at The Joe – was the first by a Red Wings defenseman since Nicklas Lidstrom scored three times on Dec. 15, 2010 vs. STL.

* Detroit also donned, for the first time, the No. 9 patch that they will wear all season in honor of Gordie Howe.

BALANCED ATTACK LEADS RANGERS TO VICTORY
Forwards Mats Zuccarello (1-2—3), Chris Kreider (1-1—2), Derek Stepan (0-2—2) and defenseman Ryan McDonagh (0-2—2) were among 11 different players to find the scoresheet for the Rangers as the club erupted for seven goals in their victory over the Sharks.

* Elias says New York had seven different goal-scorers in the same game for the first time since Jan. 19, 2010, when eight players scored in an 8-2 victory vs. TBL.

* Kreider has collected 1-1—2 in all three games in 2016-17; Elias says he is the first Rangers player to begin a season with three consecutive multi-point efforts since Bernie Nichols did so in 1990-91.

* Rookie Jimmy Vesey scored the first goal of his NHL career. The 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner signed with the Rangers as a free agent in the offseason after compiling 24-22—46 in his senior season at Harvard.

LOOSE PUCKS
Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog tied the game in the third period and scored the overtime winner . . . Teammate Jarome Iginla scored his first goal of the season. He ranks second among active players with 612 goals . . . Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo, a second round pick (No. 37) in the 2015 NHL Draft, scored his first career goal . . . Sharks defenseman Brent Burns posted 2-1—3 in his 800th career NHL game, while teammate Joe Pavelski (1-3—4) tied a career-high for points in a game . . . Oilers captain Connor McDavid, Maple Leafs rookie Auston Matthews and Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo were named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Oct. 16 . . . A limited number of tickets to the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium between the Blackhawks and Blues will go on sale this morning.
