LIGHTNING USE EARLY LEAD, RELIEF EFFORT TO TAKE SERIES LEAD
The Lightning opened a three-goal lead and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves in 47:15 of relief to help Tampa Bay pick up its fifth consecutive victory and take a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Final.

* Vasilevskiy earned his second career playoff win in relief of Ben Bishop (9 SV), who left due to injury at 12:25 of the first period. His only other postseason victory also came in relief of Bishop, in Game 2 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final vs. CHI.

* Elias notes that Vasilevskiy became the first goaltender to record each of his first two career playoff wins in relief efforts since Olie Kolzig achieved the feat with the Capitals in Game 1 of the 1995 and 1996 Conference Quarterfinals, both at PIT.

* Ondrej Palat (1-1—2) scored what stood as his second career playoff game-winning goal (also Game 4 of 2016 First Round at DET). He has compiled 4-8—12 in 10 career contests against the Penguins (regular-season and playoffs).

* Via Elias, teams that win Game 1 of the Conference Finals own an all-time series record of 67-29 (.698).

BATTLE OF THE AGES
Andrei Vasilevskiy, the 19th overall selection in the 2012 NHL Draft, was opposed in goal by fellow 21-year-old netminder Matt Murray, Pittsburgh’s third-round selection (83rd overall) in that draft.

* Via Elias, it marked the fourth time in the past 35 years that both goaltenders in a playoff game were age 21 or younger – and the first instance in that span past the opening round:

Games 1-3 & 5 of 1985 DSF: Tom Barrasso (BUF, 20) vs. Mario Gosselin (QUE, 21)
Games 2 & 3 of 1986 DSF: Bill Ranford (BOS, 19) vs. Patrick Roy (MTL, 20)
Games 2 & 4 of 1987 DSF: Bill Ranford (BOS, 20) vs. Patrick Roy (MTL, 21)
Game 1 of 2016 CF: Matt Murray (PIT, 21) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (TBL, 21)

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS
* Penguins captain Sidney Crosby registered his 83rd career playoff assist (all w/ PIT) to move past Jaromir Jagr (82) into sole possession of second place in franchise history, behind MarioLemieux (96).

LOOSE PUCKS
Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin (1-0—1) has collected 2-8—10 in the playoffs (11 GP), compared to 4-6—10 in 21 games during the 2015-16 regular season . . . After establishing franchise records for goals (4) and points (8) in a series by a defenseman in the Second Round, Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman registered 0-1—1 in Game 1 . . . Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Jon Hamm, a St. Louis native and lifelong Blues fan, chatted with NHL.com about the emotional roller-coaster of the Stanley Cup Playoffs . . . The Kings signed head coach Darryl Sutter to a multi-year contract . . . The date for announcement of final rosters for the World Cup of Hockey 2016 has been changed from June 1 to May 27 . . . BLUES, SHARKS PREPARE FOR WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL
The Blues and Sharks will open the 2016 Western Conference Final on Sunday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. This marks the fifth all-time playoff meeting between the two franchises, and the first past the opening round. The teams have split their previous four meetings, with St. Louis winning their most recent encounter in the 2012 Western Conference Quarterfinals (4-1 W).
