* At 35-16-4 (74 points), the Blackhawks maintained a three-point lead over the Stars (33-14-5, 71 points) – who also won in overtime – for first place in the Central Division and Western Conference. Dallas holds three games in hand, but Chicago owns the ROW tiebreaker (CHI: 34, DAL: 31).

* Toews registered his fifth overtime goal of 2015-16, equaling a single-season NHL record established by Lightning forward Steven Stamkos in 2011-12. Toews’ four other overtime goals this season: Oct. 24 vs. TBL, Oct. 26 vs. ANA, Dec. 20 vs. SJS and Dec. 31 at COL.

* Toews also tied Sharks captain Joe Pavelski for the League lead with eight game-winning goals in 2015-16 (54 GP). That equals a career high set in 2010-11 (80 GP).

* Toews reached the 20-goal milestone for the ninth time in as many NHL seasons (21-16—37). Via Elias, only two other Blackhawks players have recorded 20 or more goals in each of their first nine NHL campaigns: Denis Savard (10) and Patrick Kane (9, active).

OVECHKIN’S TIEBREAKING GOAL LIFTS CAPITALS OVER ISLANDERS . . .
Alex Ovechkin scored the tiebreaking goal with 2:40 remaining in regulation to lead the Capitals to a 13-1-1 record in their last 15 home games dating to Nov. 21.

* At 36-9-4 (76 points), the League-leading Capitals maintained a two-point lead over the Blackhawks (35-16-4, 74 points) – who also won – atop the NHL standings. The teams are tied in ROW (34), but Washington holds six games in hand.

. . . MORE THIRD-PERIOD HEROICS POWER TEAMS
Several other teams rallied for victories on the strength of third-period goals:

Klingberg, who ranks third among defensemen with 8-35—43 this season, registered his second overtime goal of the campaign (also Nov. 14 vs. MIN) and the third of his career (also March 28, 2015 at VAN). Per Elias, he equaled a franchise record for overtime goals by a defenseman, joining Trevor Daley, Richard Matvichuk and Sergei Zubov.

J.T. Miller added 1-1—2, including his eighth goal in his past eight outings (8-1—9) – equaling his total from his first 43 games of the season.

Marchand, who also has totaled eight goals in his past eight games (8-0—8), paces the team with 23 goals this season (46 GP) – five shy of his career high established in 2011-12 (76 GP).

* Tyler Bozak (1-1—2) evened the game with 2:06 remaining in regulation and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau notched the lone goal in the shootout to power the Maple Leafs to their second straight win on the heels of a four-game skid (0-2-2). STREAKING TEAMS COLLIDE AT AMALIE ARENA
A pair of streaking teams face off when the Lightning (28-18-4, 60 points) play host to the Penguins (25-17-7, 57 points) at Amalie Arena as part of a national broadcast in both the U.S. and Canada (NHLN-US, TVAS).
