CANADIENS, MAPLE LEAFS DROP PUCK ON 2015-16 SEASON
The Canadiens and Maple Leafs drop the puck on the 2015-16 season when they meet at Air Canada Centre. This marks the seventh consecutive campaign in which these Original Six rivals will face off in their season openers; Toronto is 4-1-1 in those contests (MTL: 2-4-0), but Montreal won 4-3 last year on a Tomas Plekanec goal in the final minute of regulation. Overall, the Canadiens and Maple Leafs will meet four times this season – all before the end of February. Montreal, the defending Atlantic Division champions, has won six straight against Toronto dating to March 1, 2014 (TOR: 0-3-3).

BLACKHAWKS RAISE CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER AGAINST RANGERS
The Blackhawks will raise their sixth championship banner in franchise history, and third in the past six seasons, when they play host to the Rangers at United Center. These Original Six clubs nearly met in the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, but New York lost in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final to Tampa Bay. The Blackhawks and Rangers split their two meetings in 2014-15, with each earning a 1-0 victory on the road. Overall, Chicago and New York have split their past eight head-to-head matchups dating to Dec. 9, 2009 (CHI: 4-3-1, NYR: 4-3-1).

FLAMES, CANUCKS MEET IN PLAYOFF REMATCH
The Flames and Canucks meet in their season openers for the second consecutive campaign when they face off at Scotiabank Saddledome. This marks the first contest between these clubs since the opening round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a six-game series victory by Calgary. The Flames and Canucks will meet four more times in 2015-16, including the second half of a home-and-home series on Saturday at Rogers Arena. Overall, Calgary has won the last two regular-season contests between these teams, snapping a nine-game losing streak in the head-to-head series on Jan. 10.

REVAMPED KINGS, SHARKS CAP OPENING NIGHT MATCHUPS
The Kings and Sharks begin their respective campaigns when they meet at STAPLES Center. Both clubs revamped their rosters during the offseason, highlighted by the move of Kings backup goaltender Martin Jones to the Sharks (via the Bruins). Jones, who signed with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent in October 2008, spent the past two seasons with the Kings, compiling a 16-11-2 record in 34 appearances (1.99 GAA, .923 SV%, 7 SO). This marks the second consecutive season opener between these clubs; the Sharks spoiled the Kings’ banner-raising ceremony in 2014-15 with a 4-0 win.

2015 MOLSON CANADIAN NHL FACE-OFF
The NHL, in conjunction with the Flames and Tourism Calgary, will hold the 2015 Molson Canadian NHL Face-Off, the League’s official season-opening celebration, today at historic Fort Calgary in Alberta. The free hockey and music festival will occupy more than 300,000 square feet of Fort Calgary and will culminate with a live viewing party of the Flames’ home opener against the Canucks.

Neo soul/indie pop band Fitz & The Tantrums will headline the event, with performances by alternative rock band Reuben and the Dark, Canadian singer/songwriter Jocelyn Alice and Calgary DJ duo Boogie Hill Faders.

In addition to the musical performances, the family-friendly celebration will feature prizes and giveaways; NHL alumni and special guest appearances; merchandise available for purchase; and sponsored hockey activities, interactive games and product previews, courtesy of NHL corporate partners.
