TAMPA BAY 6, NY Rangers 5 (OT) – TBL leads series 2-1

KUCHEROV’S OT HEROICS POWER LIGHTNING TO 2-1 SERIES LEAD
The Rangers tied the game with 1:56 remaining in regulation, but Nikita Kucherov (1-1—2) scored at 3:33 of overtime to end a seesaw affair and power the Lightning to a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final.

* The Lightning improved to 11-7 in 18 all-time playoff overtime games, including a 3-0 record this year. They also earned their third such win at home (in seven total games) and first since April 16, 2004 vs. NYI (Game 5 of CQF).

* Kucherov recorded his third career game-winning goal in the playoffs (18 GP) – all of which have been scored in the past nine contests. The others came in consecutive outings in the Second Round: Games 1 (in 2OT) and 2 at MTL.

* Kucherov became the second player in Lightning history to register multiple overtime goals in one playoff year. The other, his Eastern Conference Final opponent: Martin St. Louis, who did so in 2004 when the club captured the Stanley Cup (Game 5 of CQF vs. NYI and Game 6 of F at CGY).

* Kucherov also became the third player in Lightning history to post multiple playoff overtime goals in his career. The others: St. Louis (3) and Brad Richards (2).

* Via Elias, Kucherov (21 years, 337 days) became the third player in Stanley Cup Playoffs history to record multiple overtime goals in one playoff year prior to his 22nd birthday. The others: Sabres forward Danny Gare in 1976 (at age 21) and Canadiens forward Claude Lemieux in 1986 (at age 20). In Game 1 of the Second Round at MTL, Kucherov (21 years, 318 days) became the youngest player in Lightning history to register a playoff overtime goal.

* “I just saw the D back up a little bit, they gave me space, and I just tried to shoot it,” said Kucherov, a second-round selection (58th overall) by the Lightning in the 2011 NHL Draft. “Any shot in overtime is a good shot. I’m glad I scored.”

* Seven total Lightning players collected multiple points. The others: Ondrej Palat (2-1—3), Tyler Johnson (1-1—2), Alex Killorn (1-1—2), Steven Stamkos (1-1—2),Victor Hedman (0-2—2) and Nikita Nesterov (0-2—2).

* The Lightning fell behind 2-0 less than 10 minutes after the opening face-off before scoring four consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead. After the Rangers evened the game at 4-4, Palat notched his second goal with 5:55 remaining in regulation before Dan Boyleultimately forced overtime with 1:56 left on the clock.

* The Lightning overcame a two-goal deficit to win for the second time this postseason; they also did so in Game 4 of the First Round at DET (3-2 OT W). Prior to that, Elias says the team had not overcome a multi-goal deficit to win a playoff game since May 21, 2011 vs. BOS (Game 4 of CF: 5-3 W).

* The Lightning improved to 7-4-0 in their last 11 home games vs. NYR dating to Nov. 27, 2009 (regular season and playoffs). They led the NHL and set franchise records with 32 home wins and 65 home points during the regular season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: “THE TRIPLETS LINE”

* On Wednesday, Johnson (1-1—2) scored his League-leading 12th goal of the playoffs (16 GP), equaling a single-year Lightning postseason record set by Ruslan Fedotenko(22 GP) and Brad Richards (23 GP) in 2004.

Knotted at 1-1, the Western Conference Final shifts to Chicago for Game 3 between the Blackhawks and Ducks. The clubs are coming off the longest game thus far in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a triple-overtime thriller ended by Blackhawks forward Marcus Kruger at 116:12. With that win, the Blackhawks handed the Ducks their first home loss of the postseason (6-1), leaving them as the only team with an unblemished record on home ice (5-0).
