JOHNSON’S HAT TRICK HELPS LIGHTNING EVEN SERIES
Tyler Johnson recorded the first hat trick in Lightning playoff history – as well as the first in his postseason career – to help the team even the Eastern Conference Final at one game apiece.

* Johnson, who scored while shorthanded, on the power play and at even strength, paces the NHL with 11 goals and 16 points this postseason (15 GP). He also registered the game-winning goal, his League-leading fourth of the playoffs.

* Johnson, a 24-year-old Spokane, Wash., native who signed with the Lightning as an undrafted free agent on March 7, 2011, posted career highs in goals (29), assists (43) and points (72) during the regular season (77 GP) – his second full NHL campaign. He also finished as a runner-up for the 2013-14 Calder Memorial Trophy, collecting 24-26—50 (82 GP).

* “I think every morning I’m just happy to be here and I’m living my dream,” Johnson said. “So that’s what’s driving me – to try to be the best I can and play for my family. They sacrificed so much for me to be here, and I’m living my dream, so I want to keep living it as long as possible.”

* Alex Killorn (2-1—3) added his first multi-goal and three-point performances in the postseason (19 GP). That includes 5-7—12 this year (15 GP), tied for seventh in the NHL with teammate Steven Stamkos (4-8—12 in 15 GP).

* Nikita Kucherov collected three assists for his third three-point game this postseason (also April 27 at DET: 0-3—3 and May 12 vs. MTL: 2-1—3). He ranks third in the NHL with 6-8—14 (15 GP) after setting career highs in goals (29), assists (36) and points (65) during the regular season (82 GP).

* Ondrej Palat, who was mic’d up for Johnson’s second and third goals, also posted one assist. The ‘Triplets’ line of Johnson (11-5—16), Kucherov (6-8—14) and Palat (4-6—10) has combined for 40 points in the team’s 15 playoff games, including 21 of their 41 goals.

* Stamkos registered 1-1—2, including a power-play goal, for his third multi-point game of the postseason. He has 4-5—9 in his last seven outings after beginning the playoffs with 0-3—3 in his first eight games.

* Ben Bishop made 35 saves – including a sprawling pad stop to preserve a one-goal lead in the third period – to improve to 9-6 this postseason (1.83 GAA, .932 SV%, 1 SO). He also improved 9-1-0 in 10 career games vs. NYR (regular season and playoffs).

* The Lightning converted 3-of-6 power-play opportunities (50.0%). They are 11-for-26 (42.3%) with the man-advantage over the past seven games after going 2-for-34 (5.9%) on the power play in their first eight contests this postseason.

* The Lightning improved to 6-2-0 in their last eight meetings with the Rangers dating to Nov. 25, 2013 (regular season and playoffs). That includes a 4-1-0 record at Madison Square Garden.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: TYLER JOHNSON
More details on Tyler Johnson’s Game 2 performance (via Elias):

* Johnson became the first player in Lightning history to score a shorthanded goal and power-play goal in a single playoff period (1st period). The last player to achieve that feat (in any period) was Flyers captain Claude Giroux, who did so on April 13, 2013 at PIT (2nd period).

* Johnson also became the first player to record a shorthanded goal, power-play goal and even-strength goal in a playoff game since Giroux did so on that date (3-3—6 in 8-5 W).

* Johnson became the first player to score a shorthanded goal and power-play goal in the first period of a playoff game since Bruins forward Rick Middleton achieved that feat on April 20, 1983 vs. BUF (9-0 W).

* Johnson registered his fourth multi-goal game of the postseason (15 GP), surpassing the single-year franchise record of three established by Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004 (23 GP). Johnson’s other three such performances all came during the First Round vs. DET – in Game 2 (2-0—2), Game 4 (2-1—3) and Game 6 (2-0—2).

* Johnson became the first player to notch four multi-goal games in one postseason for any team since Devils forward Jamie Langenbrunner did so in 2003 en route to the team’s third Stanley Cup (24 GP).

* Johnson’s 11 overall goals are one shy of the Lightning single-year playoff record, set by Ruslan Fedotenko (22 GP) and Richards (23 GP) when the team captured the Stanley Cup in 2004.
