OVECHKIN REACHES 50-GOAL MILESTONE IN CAPITALS’ WIN
Alex Ovechkin posted 1-1—2, including his League-leading 50th goal of the season, to power the Capitals to their sixth win in their last eight games overall and fifth victory in their past seven meetings with the Hurricanes dating to Dec. 20, 2013 (5-1-1).

* At 42-25-10 (94 points), the Capitals moved within one point of the idle Islanders (45-27-5, 95 points) and Penguins (42-23-11, 95 points) for second place in the Metropolitan Division. All three teams have 38 ROWs.


* Ovechkin reached the 50-goal milestone for the sixth time in his career (and second straight season). Only five other players in NHL history have recorded as many 50-goal seasons: Mike Bossy (9), Wayne Gretzky (9), Marcel Dionne (6), Guy Lafleur (6) and Mario Lemieux (6).

* Ovechkin also equaled a franchise record with his 472nd career goal (755 GP), tyingPeter Bondra (961 GP) for the most in Capitals history. Ovechkin, however, achieved the feat in 206 fewer games.

* Ovechkin leads all players with 472 goals since making his NHL debut in 2005-06. That is 136 more than the next-closest player (Jarome Iginla: 336).

* Ovechkin, who also paces the NHL with 22 power-play goals and 11 game-winning goals this season, is tied for second in the League with 50-27—77 overall (w/ John Tavares: 34-43—77). He has 34-15—49 in his last 41 outings dating to Dec. 29.


* Braden Holtby made 23 saves to pick up his third consecutive win and 38th of the season – second-most in the NHL behind Carey Price and Pekka Rinne (both w/ 41). Holtby’s 38 victories also are three shy of the single-season franchise record, set byOlie Kolzig in 1999-00.

* Mike Green (1-1—2) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (0-2—2) also registered multi-point performances. Brooks Laich (GWG) and Joel Ward supplied the other goals.

LUCIC’S LATE GOAL LIFTS BRUINS OVER PANTHERS . . .
David Pastrnak scored the tying goal midway through the third period and Milan Lucicpotted the decisive marker with 1:09 remaining in regulation to lift the Bruins to their third consecutive victory overall and a 10-0-1 record in their last 11 meetings with the Panthers dating to Feb. 24, 2013.

* At 39-25-13 (91 points), the Bruins maintained a three-point lead over the Senators (38-26-12, 88 points) – who also won on Tuesday – for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

* The Bruins also moved within two points of the Red Wings (40-23-13, 93 points) – who lost in a shootout – for third place in the Atlantic Division. These teams meet one more time this season, on Thursday at DET (BOS: 3-1-0, DET: 1-2-1).


* The line of Lucic (1-1—2), Pastrnak (1-1—2) and Ryan Spooner (0-2—2) combined for 2-4—6.

* Lucic recorded his fourth game-winning goal of the season, all during the calendar year (also Jan. 8 vs. NJD, Feb. 22 at CHI and March 14 at PIT).

* Pastrnak, the team’s first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft, posted his second straight multi-point performance (also Sunday at CAR: 1-1—2). The 18-year-old forward has 11-16—27 in 41 appearances.

* Spooner registered his second career multi-assist game (also Dec. 23, 2013 at NSH: 0-3—3). He has 7-10—17 in 24 outings this season, including points in four straight games (2-3—5).

* Tuukka Rask made 22 saves to earn his 32nd victory of the season, four shy of his career high set in 2013-14. He also improved to 12-1-1 in 14 career appearances vs. FLA (1.12 GAA, .960 SV%, 3 SO).

* The Bruins won their eighth straight home game against the Panthers dating to Dec. 23, 2011.

. . . STONE, SENATORS EDGE RED WINGS TO KEEP PACE
Mark Stone assisted on the tying goal with 4:02 remaining in regulation and then scored the decisive marker in the fourth round of the shootout to help the Senators snap a three-game skid overall (0-2-1) and pick up their third victory in their past four visits to Joe Louis Arena dating to Oct. 23, 2013.

* At 38-26-12 (88 points), the Senators remained three points behind the Bruins (39-25-13, 91 points) – who also won on Tuesday – for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa holds one game in hand, but Boston owns the ROW tiebreaker (BOS: 36, OTT: 32).


* Stone recorded his first career shootout goal (1-for-2, 50.0%). He ranks third among rookies with 19-35—54 this season.

* Andrew Hammond made 16 saves through overtime – and denied two shootout attempts – to improve to 15-1-1 in his first 17 career starts. That includes an 8-0-1 record on the road, where he has a 1.08 goals-against average, .964 save percentage and two shutouts.

* Per Elias, Hammond is the first goaltender to earn at least one point in each of his first nine career road starts since Brent Johnson (Feb. 26, 1999 – Jan. 13, 2001; 10 GP w/ STL). The last goaltender to accomplish that feat in a single season was Grant Fuhr(Oct. 28 – Dec. 9, 1981; 9 GP w/ EDM).

* Clarke MacArthur snapped a 14-game drought with his first goal since Jan. 13 at DAL. He has 14-14—28 in 56 appearances this season.

* Erik Karlsson collected the primary assist on MacArthur’s goal; he leads all defensemen with 20-42—62 this season. Karlsson also ranks second in both goals and assists among blueliners (one behind Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Kris Letang, respectively).

KREIDER, RANGERS CONTINUE RECORD-SETTING ROAD CAMPAIGN
Chris Kreider scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:46 remaining in regulation to help the Rangers snap a two-game skid overall and pick up their seventh victory in their last eight road contests.

* At 48-21-7 (103 points), the Rangers leapfrogged the idle Canadiens (47-22-8, 102 points) for first place in the Eastern Conference. New York also holds one game in hand and owns the ROW tiebreaker (NYR: 44, MTL: 41).

* The Rangers improved to 25-11-2 as visitors this season – their 25 road wins pace the NHL, while their 52 road points are tied for first (w/ ANA: 24-12-4).

* The Rangers’ 25 road wins equal a franchise record established last season (25-14-2). Their 52 road points are one shy of the club record set in 2011-12 (24-12-5).

* Kreider notched his fifth game-winning goal of the season, all in the calendar year (41 GP). He had zero such goals in his first 122 career outings.

* Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves to pick up his first win since Feb. 2. Overall, he improved to 26-12-3 this season (2.29 GAA, .921 SV%, 5 SO) and 12-7-7 all-time vs. WPG/ATL (2.09 GAA, .922 SV%, 3 SO).

* Derick Brassard posted 1-1—2, including the tying goal late in the second period. He has established career highs in assists (40) and points (57) this season, while his 17 goals are one shy of the 18 he scored in 2013-14.

* The Rangers improved to 4-1-0 in five all-time visits to MTS Centre. They are 17-5-5 this season against Western Conference opponents, including an 8-2-2 record in their last 12 such games.

CANUCKS OUTLAST PREDATORS, CREATE SPACE IN PACIFIC
The Predators notched the tying goal with 5:03 remaining in regulation, but Nick Bonino and Radim Vrbata each scored in the shootout to lift the Canucks to their second win in as many days and their fourth victory in their past five trips to The Music City dating to Feb. 22, 2013.

* At 45-27-5 (95 points), the Canucks moved four points ahead of the idle Flames (42-28-7, 91 points) for second place in the Pacific Division. Vancouver also owns the ROW tiebreaker (VAN: 40, CGY: 38).


* Bonino, who also collected two assists in regulation, recorded his third career game-deciding goal (9-for-19, 47.4%), including his second of the season (also Nov. 9 at ANA).

* Vrbata added his 38th career shootout goal (38-for-88, 43.2%) – that is tied for the third-most goals since the shootout was introduced in 2005-06.

* Eddie Lack made 34 saves – and denied both shootout attempts he faced – to earn his fourth consecutive road victory. Overall, he improved to 16-11-4 this season, equaling his win total from his rookie campaign in 2013-14.

* Alexandre Burrows (1-1—2) and Dan Hamhuis (0-2—2) added multi-point games.Jannik Hansen, Chris Higgins and Linden Vey supplied the other goals in regulation.

* Vey (10-13—23) became the second Canucks rookie to reach double-digits in goals this season, following Bo Horvat (13-10—23). Elias says the last time multiple Canucks rookies scored at least 10 goals in the same season was in 1990-91: Robert Kron (12),Jay Mazur (11), Petr Nedved (10) and Garry Valk (10).

JOHNSON POWERS BLUE JACKETS TO SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN
The Devils tied the game with 2:29 remaining in regulation, but Jack Johnson scored 56 seconds into overtime to power the Blue Jackets to their seventh consecutive victory – one shy of the franchise record set Jan. 6-23, 2014.

* The Blue Jackets concluded March with an 11-4-0 record; their 11 wins were the most in one calendar month in franchise history.

* Johnson recorded his seventh career game-winning goal and first since April 27, 2013 vs. NSH. He also posted his third career overtime goal; the other two came eight days apart for the Kings in 2011-12 (Oct. 7 vs. NYR and Oct. 15 at PHI).

* Ryan Johansen collected two assists to extend his point streak to eight games (3-8—11). He registered a career-high 13-game point streak earlier this season (Dec. 18Jan. 17: 8-8—16), the longest by any player in 2014-15.

* Brandon Dubinsky scored via a penalty shot to give the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead in the second period. Shooters improved to 11-for-38 (28.9%) on penalty-shot attempts this season.

* Nick Foligno added his team-leading 27th goal of the season. Sergei Bobrovskymade 24 saves to earn his sixth consecutive victory and improve to 10-2-0 in his past 12 decisions.

LOOSE PUCKS
James Reimer stopped 40 shots, including all 27 he faced over the final two periods, to lead the Maple Leafs to consecutive wins for the first time since Feb. 21-26. Nazem Kadri (1-1—2), David Booth (GWG) and Morgan Rielly supplied the goals . . . Despite suffering the shootout loss, the Predators (47-22-9, 103 points) moved four points ahead of the idle Blues (46-23-7, 99 points) for first place in the Central Division . . . Panthers forward Brandon Pirri, who played in his 100th NHL game, scored his 18th goal in his past 25 outings dating to Jan. 19. He had 16 goals in his first 75 career contests . . . Devils forward Mike Cammalleri (2-0—2) registered his fifth multi-goal game of the season, including his second career shorthanded tally . . . Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist notched his 25th goal of the season, three shy of the team lead held by Tomas Tatar. Both players also scored in the shootout . . . Lightning forward Ryan Callahan posted his 23rd goal of the season, his most since scoring a career-high 29 in 2011-12 (w/ NYR) . . . Bruins forward Loui Eriksson reached the 20-goal milestone for the fifth time in his career (and first time since 2011-12 w/ DAL) . . . Predators forward Mike Fisher recorded 1-1—2, including the tying goal with 5:03remaining in regulation . . . Facing his former team for the first time since a March 1trade, Jets forward Lee Stempniak notched his 12th goal of the season (and third w/ WPG). He posted 9-9—18 in 53 appearances with the Rangers . . . Hurricanes captainEric Staal scored to reach the 50-point milestone for the 10th consecutive season (22-28—50 in 71 GP) . . . Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov played in his 100th NHL game . . . Lightning defenseman Slater Koekkoek, the 10th overall pick in 2012, made his NHL debut . . . Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi recorded a career-high 10 blocked shots . . . ICYMI: Hockey legend Gordie Howe celebrated his 87th birthdayon Tuesday.

BATTLE OF PENNSYLVANIA TAKES CENTER STAGE
The Penguins and Flyers stage the third edition of the Battle of Pennsylvania when they meet at CONSOL Energy Center as part of NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry. Philadelphia has won the first two games between these clubs this season, picking up a 5-3 victory on Oct. 22 and 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 20. The Flyers also have won 10 of their last 12 regular-season visits to their intrastate rivals dating to Oct. 7, 2010 (10-1-1). Overall, Philadelphia has points in three straight outings (1-0-2), while Pittsburgh has gone 3-1-1 in its last five.
