BLACKHAWKS, FLAMES CLIMB IN DIVISION RACES
Both the Blackhawks and Flames won on Sunday to climb into third place in their respective divisions:


* Jonathan Toews scored the tiebreaking goal with 30.8 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Blackhawks snap a two-game skid overall and pick up their seventh consecutive road victory over the Jets/Thrashers dating to Dec. 11, 2005 (including a 4-0-0 mark in Winnipeg).

* Toews, a Winnipeg native, has 5-7—12 in 11 games against the Jets since the franchise relocated to his hometown in 2011-12. He ranks second on the Blackhawks with 25-37—62 this season, including five game-winning goals.

* Behind 3-2 after 40 minutes, Patrick Sharp scored the tying goal early in the third period. Brad Richards and Andrew Shaw supplied the other goals.

* Corey Crawford made 31 saves, including 13 in the final frame, to earn his 31st win of the season (53 GP) – two shy of his career high set in 2010-11 (57 GP).


* Jiri Hudler posted 1-2—3 to help the Flames snap a two-game skid and sweep their three-game season series with Predators. Calgary won both of its trips to Nashville this season after dropping five straight in The Music City dating to Dec. 13, 2011.

* Hudler recorded his third three-point performance of the season (also Nov. 29 at ARI: 1-2—3 and March 13 vs. TOR: 1-2—3). He is tied for ninth in the NHL with 28-41—69 (all career highs), including 9-12—21 in March (14 GP).

* Lance Bouma (2-0—2) notched his second career multi-goal game (other Jan. 31 vs. EDM: 2-0—2). Deryk Engelland added a pair of assists, while Michael Ferlandscored his first NHL goal (21 GP).

* Jonas Hiller made 27 saves, including 11 in the second period, to improve to 22-18-4 this season (2.43 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO).

PASTRNAK HELPS BRUINS CREATE SPACE IN WILD CARD HUNT . . .
David Pastrnak scored with 37.0 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Bruins to their second win in as many days and a 5-0-1 record in their last six meetings with the Hurricanes dating to Nov. 18, 2013.

* At 38-25-13 (89 points), the Bruins moved three points ahead of the Senators (37-26-12, 86 points) – who lost in regulation – for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa holds one game in hand, but Boston owns the ROW tiebreaker (BOS: 35, OTT: 32).

* Pastrnak, who made his NHL debut on Nov. 24, recorded his 10th career goal, third game-winner and first in overtime. Elias says the 18-year-old forward became the first teenager in Bruins history to score an overtime goal in the regular season. Grigori Panteleev previously was the youngest player in franchise history to register an overtime goal, doing so at 20 years, 50 days on Jan. 2, 1993 vs. HFD.

* Pastrnak added one assist for his fifth multi-point performance of the season. Overall, he has 10-15—25 in 40 contests.

* Ryan Spooner supplied the other goal, his fourth in his past six outings (4-2—6). He had three goals in his first 44 career games dating to 2012-13.

* Tuukka Rask made 30 saves, including 11 in the third period/overtime, to earn his 31st win of the season (64 GP) – five shy of his career high set in 2013-14 (58 GP). He also improved to 6-3-1 in 11 career appearances vs. CAR (1.98 GAA, .936 SV%).

. . . JAGR’S PAIR LIFTS PANTHERS OVER SENATORS
Jaromir Jagr scored twice, including what proved to be the game-winning goal, to help the Panthers earn a split of their four-game season series with the Senators and improve to 4-1-1 in their last six outings overall.

* At 35-26-15 (85 points), the Panthers remained within four points of the Bruins (38-25-13, 89 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The clubs meet two more times this season, on Tuesday at BOS and April 9 at FLA (BOS: 1-0-1, FLA: 1-0-1).


* Jagr recorded his second multi-goal game of the season and first in a Panthers uniform (other Jan. 3 at PHI: 3-0—3 w/ NJD). He now has 720 career goals, fifth in NHL history and 11 behind Marcel Dionne (731) for fourth place. Jagr also ranks fifth all-time with 1,796 career points, two behind Ron Francis (1,798) for fourth place.

* Jagr extended his point streak to four games (2-3—5). The 43-year-old forward has 15-26—41 in 71 appearances this season, including 4-8—12 in 14 games since joining the Panthers.

* Dave Bolland (1-1—2) and Jonathan Huberdeau (0-2—2) also registered multi-point performances. Jussi Jokinen provided the club’s other goal.

* Dan Ellis made 25 saves, including nine in both the first and third periods, to improve to 4-2-1 this season (2.11 GAA, .922 SV%, 1 SO).

CHIMERA, OVECHKIN POWER CAPITALS PAST RANGERS . . .
Jason Chimera scored twice in the opening 7:40 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lead the Capitals past the Rangers in a potential First Round playoff preview.

* The Capitals improved to 5-2-0 in their last seven games. At 41-25-10 (92 points), they remained three points ahead of the Bruins (38-25-13, 89 points) for the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

* Chimera registered his eighth career multi-goal game and first since Dec. 23, 2011 at NJD (2-0—2). He also potted his 25th career game-winning goal and second of the season (other Jan. 14 vs. PHI).

* Alex Ovechkin also scored two goals, including one via the power play. He continues to lead the NHL with 49 goals and 22 power-play strikes this season.

* Ovechkin notched his 14th multi-goal performance of the season – no other player has more than eight such games. Ovechkin also tied a single-season high in that category, first accomplished in 2009-10.

* Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich each collected two assists. Marcus Johansson added the other goal into an empty net.

* Braden Holtby made 23 saves to improve to 37-19-9 this season (2.21 GAA, .923 SV%, 8 SO). Only Olie Kolzig has recorded more wins for the Capitals in one season (41 in 1999-00).

* The Capitals snapped a three-game skid against the Rangers dating to Jan. 19, 2014. The teams meet one more time this season, on April 11 at WSH – the final day of the regular season.

. . . OTHER METROPOLITAN CONTENDERS KEEP PACE WITH WINS
The Penguins and Islanders also won on Sunday to keep pace in the Metropolitan Division race, where teams No. 2-4 are separated by three points:


* The Sharks erased a 2-0 deficit, but David Perron and Sidney Crosby both scored in the shootout to power the Penguins to a 4-0-2 mark in their last six meetings in Pittsburgh dating to Nov. 23, 2002.

* Crosby added one assist in regulation; he leads the NHL with 25-54—79 this season.Patric Hornqvist and Chris Kunitz supplied the club’s goals.

* Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves – and denied both shootout attempts he faced – to pick up his 33rd win of the season. That includes 13 victories against Western Conference opponents (in 21 GP).

* The Penguins improved to 18-6-4 versus the Western Conference this season, including an 11-2-1 mark against the Pacific Division. Their 18 such wins are tied for the most among any Eastern Conference club (w/ DET: 18-5-4).

* The Islanders overcame an early 2-0 deficit, aided by three power-play goals and one shorthanded tally, to snap a three-game skid overall (0-2-1) and seven-game losing streak at Nassau Coliseum (0-6-1).

* John Tavares led the way with three assists, matching a career high achieved one other time this season (in the club’s first game, Oct. 10 at CAR). He ranks second in the NHL with 34-43—77 overall, two points behind Crosby.

* Five different players accounted for the Islanders’ goals: Cal Clutterbuck (SHG),Brock Nelson (PPG), Frans Nielsen (PPG), Kyle Okposo (PPG) and Ryan Strome.Nick Leddy (0-2—2) also recorded multiple points.

* The Islanders improved to 9-2-1 in their last 12 meetings with the Red Wings dating to Dec. 4, 2005.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Islanders and Red Wings combined for six goals in the opening 9:54 of the game, with three scores from each team. Elias says it marked the first time that two clubs each recorded at least three goals within the first 10 minutes of play since Feb. 26, 1997, when the Flyers outscored the Senators 4-3 in the first 8:34 en route to an eventual 8-5 win at OTT.

DUCKS EDGE DEVILS, CLOSE ROAD TRIP ON HIGH NOTE
John Gibson made 26 saves, including 11 in both the first and second periods, to help the Ducks close their five-game road trip with three straight wins.

* At 49-22-7 (105 points), the Ducks moved three points ahead of the Canadiens (47-21-8, 102 points) and Predators (47-22-8, 102 points) for first place in the NHL standings, where the top six teams are separated by six points:


* Each of the Ducks’ last five victories has been by one goal, including three in overtime. They continue to pace the NHL in wins (32-1-7) and winning percentage (.800) in that scenario. The Ducks also are the first team to post 32 one-goal victories in one season since the 2006-07 Devils (32-7-9).

* Gibson improved to 13-7-0 this season (2.58 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO), including 10 victories in his past 13 decisions.

* Francois Beauchemin reached the 10-goal milestone for the first time in his career. It also stood as his 11th career game-winning goal and first since April 2, 2014 vs. EDM.

* Ryan Kesler reached the 20-goal milestone for the seventh time (and second straight season). He ranks third on the club with 20-27—47, his most points in one season since 2011-12 (22-27—49 w/ VAN).

* The Ducks extended their point streak versus the Devils to five games dating to Feb. 17, 2012 (3-0-2), including three straight wins.

LOOSE PUCKS
The Rangers suffered consecutive regulation losses for the first time since Jan. 27-29 . . . Despite falling in the shootout, the Sharks (37-30-9, 83 points) remained within six points of third place in the Pacific Division . . . Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien (2-0—2) notched his ninth career multi-goal game and second of the season (also Jan. 13 vs. FLA: 2-1—3). He has 3-6—9 in 11 career games vs. CHI, who selected him in the eighth round (245th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft . . . Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk (1-1—2) recorded his third multi-point game in his past seven outings (2-6—8). He ranks second on the team with 24-36—60 (59 GP) despite missing 16 games this season . . . Jets forward Drew Stafford posted one assist to extend his point streak to a career-high nine games (4-7—11) . . . Senators captain Erik Karlsson reached the 20-goal milestone for the second consecutive season. He leads all defensemen with 20-41—61 . . . Sharks defenseman Brent Burns collected one assist for the fourth consecutive game (0-4—4). He ranks second among blueliners with 16-40—56 . . . Predators defenseman Roman Josi (1-1—2) posted his 15th multi-point performance of the season. He places third among blueliners with 15-40—55, one point shy of Shea Weber’s single-season franchise record for a defenseman (set in 2013-14: 23-33—56) . . . Jets captain Andrew Ladd notched two assists. He has 3-8—11 in 11 career games vs. CHI, who he played for from 2008-10 (37-62—99 in 184 GP) . . . Red Wings forwardTomas Tatar posted 1-1—2, including his 100th NHL point . . . Hurricanes forwardJordan Staal (600) and Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson (400) played in milestone games . . . Forward Scott Gomez skated in his 600th game with the Devils, becoming the 15th player in franchise history to achieve the feat . . . ICYMI: The Senators honored Kevin Vickers and the House of Commons Security Team during a pregame ceremony . . . The Penguins presented referee Kevin Pollock with an autographed stick in honor of his 1,000th NHL game.

MONDAY’S CLINCHING SCENARIOS
Two clubs can clinch playoff berths, while the Ducks can lock up the Pacific Division title:

* The Blues would clinch a playoff berth if they win in regulation or overtime OR if they win in a shootout AND either the Flames or Kings lose in any fashion OR if they get one point and either the Flames lose in regulation OR the Flames lose in any fashion and the Kings lose in regulation. The Blues CANNOT clinch a playoff berth if they lose in regulation.

* The Lightning would clinch a playoff berth if they get at least one point.

* The Ducks (idle) would clinch the Pacific Division if the Canucks lose in any fashion.

RACE TO THE PLAYOFFS CONTINUES
Several playoff contenders clash on Monday’s schedule:

* The Canadiens (47-21-8, 102 points) and Lightning (46-23-7, 99 points) – the top two teams in the Atlantic Division – face off for a fifth and final time this season when they meet at Bell Centre. Tampa Bay has won each of their first four matchups and is 7-0-1 in their past eight regular-season meetings dating to the start of 2013-14. Montreal, however, earned a four-game sweep when the clubs collided in the First Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Overall, the Canadiens are 4-1-1 in their last six outings, while the Lightning have dropped two straight following a four-game winning streak.

* The Blues (46-22-7, 99 points) and Canucks (43-27-5, 91 points) – who rank second in the Central and Pacific Divisions, respectively – try to improve their standings when they face off at Scottrade Center. This marks the third and final meeting of the season between these Western Conference foes; Vancouver has won the first two and is 8-0-2 in their last 10 head-to-head matchups dating to Jan. 12, 2012. Overall, the Blues are 3-2-2 in their past seven contests, while the Canucks have lost two in a row (0-1-1) following a 5-1-0 stretch.

* The Kings (37-24-14, 88 points) – the first team on the outside of the postseason picture in the Western Conference – attempt to climb back into a playoff spot when they visit the Blackhawks (45-24-6, 96 points) at United Center. Opponents in the Western Conference Final each of the past two years, these clubs are meeting for a third and final time this season after splitting their first two matchups. Los Angeles is 3-1-0 entering the finale of its five-game road trip, while Chicago snapped a two-game skid with a last-minute victory over Winnipeg on Sunday, vaulting the team back into third place in the Central Division.

* The Flames (41-28-7, 89 points) – who reclaimed third place in the Pacific Division with a win on Sunday – try to stay in front of the Kings when they visit the Stars (37-29-10, 84 points) at American Airlines Center. Calgary currently holds a one-point edge over Los Angeles in their divisional race, but has played one extra game. Dallas, meanwhile, sits six points back of Winnipeg (39-25-12, 90 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. This marks the second meeting between these clubs in the past week; the Stars earned a 4-3 shootout victory on Wednesday at Scotiabank Saddledome.
