DID YOU KNOW?
Following Tuesday’s games, the four division leaders – the Rangers (Metropolitan), Blues (Central), Canadiens (Atlantic) and Ducks (Pacific) – are tied atop the NHL standings with 95 points apiece.

The top eight clubs in the League are separated by just five points:

BIG NIGHT FOR CENTRAL DIVISION TEAMS
Four of the top five teams in the Central Division won on Tuesday to keep pace in the race for the Stanley Cup Playoffs:

* Brian Elliott stopped all 25 shots he faced to record his 25th career shutout (fifth this season) and lead the Blues to their fifth victory in their past six outings. Elliott also earned his second shutout in his past three starts (March 12 vs. PHI: 28 SV) and his 21st in a Blues uniform, surpassing Jaroslav Halak (20) to move into sole possession of first place in franchise history.

* The Blues improved to 12-2-1 in their past 15 road games, including three consecutive wins. They also registered their 10th shutout of the season (Elliott: 5, Jake Allen: 4, Martin Brodeur: 1) – only the Rangers have more (11).

* The line of David Backes (1-2—3, +3), Alexander Steen (2-0—2, +3) and T.J. Oshie (0-2—2, +3) combined for 3-4—7 and a +9 rating. Backes notched his second three-point game of the season and eclipsed 50 points for the fifth time in his career. Steen recorded his third multi-goal performance of the campaign.

* Jonathan Toews (2-2—4) and Marian Hossa (2-0—2) both scored twice to power the Blackhawks to their third consecutive victory and sixth straight game with at least one point (5-0-1). Toews posted his sixth career four-point performance and 30th career multi-goal game; he has 7-5—12 in his last 10 outings.

* Via Elias, Toews and Hossa became the first pair of Blackhawks teammates to record multiple goals in the same game since March 6, 2014, when both Toews (2-0—2) and Andrew Shaw (2-0—2) did so vs. CBJ.

* Corey Crawford made 38 saves to extend his personal point streak to seven games (6-0-1). He has allowed two or fewer goals in each of those contests, compiling a 1.13 goals-against average, .964 save percentage and one shutout in that span.

* Down 2-1 after two periods, Charlie Coyle scored the tying goal with 6:41 remaining in regulation and Matt Dumba potted the winning marker 22 seconds into overtime to lift the Wild to their franchise-record eighth consecutive road victory. The Wild also improved to 12-1-2 in their past 15 road games dating to Jan. 15.

* Per Elias, Dumba became the third rookie defenseman in Wild history to record a regular-season overtime goal. The others: Filip Kuba (Jan. 5, 2001 vs. DET) and Kurtis Foster (Dec. 17, 2005 vs. MTL). Buffalo’s Nikita Zadorov is the only other rookie defenseman to score an overtime goal for any club this season (Dec. 13 vs. FLA).

* Coyle (2-0—2) notched his second career multi-goal game (also Jan. 11, 2014 vs. COL: 2-0—2). Making his 28th consecutive start since joining the team, Devan Dubnyk (25 SV) improved to 21-5-1 with a 1.67 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and five shutouts in a Wild uniform (12-1-1 in 15 GP on the road). Dubnyk also reached the 30-win milestone for the first time in his career.

* Blake Wheeler (2-1—3) and Mark Scheifele (1-2—3) both registered three points to propel the Jets to their second straight win and first victory of the season over the Sharks, who also are in the hunt for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

* Wheeler posted his third three-point performance of the season to extend his point streak to five contests (5-4—9). Scheifele matched a career high for points in one game, also achieved two other times this season (Dec. 11 at COL: 1-2—3 and Dec. 16 vs. BUF: 2-1—3).

* Andrew Ladd (1-1—2) and Drew Stafford (0-2—2) also recorded multiple points. Ladd paces the team with 24-33—57 this season, while Stafford has 5-5—10 in 14 games since his acquisition on Feb. 11. The Jets have earned at least one point in eight of their past nine outings at MTS Centre (6-1-2).

HAMMOND TIES NHL RECORD IN SENATORS’ OVERTIME WIN
Andrew Hammond made 35 saves and Mark Stone scored the winning goal with 13.4 seconds remaining in overtime – off a dazzling play from Kyle Turris – to power the Senators to their fourth consecutive victory and a 12-1-1 record in their past 14 games.

* At 34-24-11 (79 points), the Senators moved within four points of the Bruins (36-23-11, 83 points) – who lost in a shootout – for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The teams meet one more time this season, on Thursday at OTT.

* Hammond improved to 11-0-1 since making his first NHL start on Feb. 18, allowing no more than two goals in each contest. Elias says he is the second goaltender in NHL history to yield two or fewer goals in each of his first 12 career starts; Boston’s Frank Brimsek set the mark in 1938-39.

* Per Elias, Hammond also tied a Senators record for the longest streak of consecutive starts – at any point in a career – without allowing more than two goals. Ron Tugnutt established that mark in 1998-99. The last goaltender to accomplish that feat for any team was Henrik Lundqvist, who surrendered no more than two goals in each of 12 straight starts for the Rangers in 2011-12.

* Hammond also became the first goaltender to earn at least one point in each of his first 12 NHL starts since 1996-97, when Patrick Lalime went 14-0-2 in his first 16 starts with the Penguins.

* “He’s on fire,” said Turris of Hammond. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. Some of the saves he made tonight were unbelievable.”

* “It couldn’t happen to a better guy,” added teammate Patrick Wiercioch, who tied the game in the second period. “I know everyone says that, but he’s such a humble guy. He doesn’t say much, just comes in and does his work. I think the guys appreciate a [goaltender] who is quiet back there and just instills that confidence in our group right now.”

* Stone registered his 18th goal of the season, which ranks fifth among rookies. He also scored his team-leading fifth game-winning goal, tied for second among rookies behind Anders Lee (6).

CANADIENS EDGE PANTHERS TO TAKE CONTROL OF ATLANTIC
P.K. Subban scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period to help the Canadiens bounce back from a 4-2 loss on Monday at TBL and improve to 4-0-1 in their last five meetings with the Panthers dating to Jan. 6, 2014.

* At 44-20-7 (95 points), the Canadiens moved two points ahead of the idle Lightning (43-21-7, 93 points) for first place in the Atlantic Division. Tampa Bay, however, leads the season series 4-0-0 (MTL: 0-3-1) and owns the ROW tiebreaker (TBL: 41, MTL: 38). The clubs meet for a fifth and final time on March 30 at MTL.

* Subban notched his fifth game-winning goal of the season, second among defensemen behind Oliver Ekman-Larsson (7). He also shares second among defensemen with 13-39—52, four points back of Erik Karlsson (18-38—56).

* Dustin Tokarski made a career-high 41 saves, including 21 in the third period, to pick up his sixth win of the season. Elias says he is first rookie to post 40-plus saves in a game for the Canadiens since Nov. 27, 2007, when Carey Price did so at TOR (43 SV).

* Jacob De La Rose (1-1—2) and Brandon Prust (0-2—2) both added two points for the Canadiens, who have won 14 of their past 20 road games dating to Dec. 23 (14-5-1).

BURROWS’ QUICK STRIKES LIFT CANUCKS PAST FLYERS
Knotted at 1-1 after two periods, Alexandre Burrows scored twice in 17 seconds to lead the Canucks to their fourth victory in their past five outings.

* At 40-25-4 (84 points), the Canucks moved three points ahead of the idle Kings (34-22-13, 81 points) and Flames (38-27-5, 81 points) – who lost in regulation – for second place in the Pacific Division.

* Via Elias, Burrows became the first Canucks player two register two goals in 17 or fewer seconds since Jan. 7, 2009, when Steve Bernier scored twice in 12 seconds at EDM.

* Burrows posted his 18th career multi-goal game and second of the season (also Dec. 22 vs. ARI: 2-0—2). He also notched his third game-winning goal of the season, his most in one campaign since setting a career high with seven in 2011-12.

* Alexander Edler (1-1—2) and Daniel Sedin (0-2—2) both recorded multiple points. Radim Vrbata added his team-leading 26th goal of the season into an empty net.

* Eddie Lack made 27 saves to improve to 6-2-1 in his past nine decisions. That matches his win total from his first 15 decisions of the season (6-7-2).

* The Canucks improved to 20-9-1 this season against the Eastern Conference, including a 12-2-0 record versus the Metropolitan Division.

GOALTENDERS LEAD DEVILS, SABRES TO VICTORIES
Strong goaltending performances carried both the Devils and Sabres to wins on Tuesday:

* Cory Schneider stopped all 35 shots he faced to record his 17th career shutout and help the Devils pick up points for the 11th time in their past 14 games (9-3-2). Schneider matched a career high with his fifth shutout of the campaign (also in 2012-13); Elias says he is the first goaltender other than Martin Brodeur to post at least five shutouts for the Devils in one season. Jacob Josefson broke a scoreless tie with his fifth goal of the season late in the second period. Adam Henrique added an insurance marker into an empty net.

* Anders Lindback made a career-high 44 saves through overtime – and denied all three attempts he faced in the shootout – to lead the Sabres to their first victory over the Bruins since Feb. 26, 2014 (0-2-2). Lindback earned his first win in a Buffalo uniform (1-3-2, 2.41 GAA, .934 SV% in 7 GP) and first victory as a starter since April 13, 2014 at WSH (w/ TBL). Rasmus Ristolainen scored the tying goal early in the third period. Tyler Ennis potted the lone marker in the shootout; he improved to 5-for-12 (41.7%) in tiebreakers this season.

LOOSE PUCKS
Panthers forward Brandon Pirri scored for the third straight game (3-0—3), the third time he has done so this season (also Oct. 21-30: 3-0—3 in 3 GP and Jan. 31-Feb. 5: 4-1—5 in 4 GP). He has 13 goals in his last 18 appearances dating to Jan. 19 . . . Sharks forward Joe Pavelski (2-0—2) registered his eighth multi-goal game of the season. He is tied for fourth in the NHL with 34 goals (w/ Max Pacioretty and Vladimir Tarasenko) . . . Bruins goaltender Niklas Svedberg made 23 saves through overtime, but yielded his first career shootout goal (8 SV / 9 SA, .889 SV%) . . . Predators defenseman Roman Josi recorded two goals in 45 seconds. Per Elias, it marked the fastest two goals by a defenseman in franchise history and the quickest two strikes by any Predators player since Feb. 19, 2007 vs. PHX (Scott Hartnell: 2 G in 0:23) . . . Penguins goaltender Thomas Greiss stopped 17-of-18 shots. He has allowed two or fewer goals in each of his past five appearances dating to Feb. 21 . . . Wild forward Thomas Vanek collected one assist to extend his point streak to five games (4-2—6) . . . Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner recorded his 100th NHL assist . . . Blues forward Paul Stastny (600), Flames defenseman Kris Russell (500) and Islanders forward Casey Cizikas (200) all played in milestone games . . . Flyers forward Nick Cousins made his NHL debut . . . ICYMI: The Panthers announced that both Bill Ruggiero and Dustin Smithwill suit up as the team’s backup practice goaltenders after winning the Goal of a Lifetime competition . . . The Canucks celebrated the life and legacy of the late Pat Quinn with a special pre-game tribute, including the unveiling of Pat Quinn Way.

RIVALRY NIGHT FEATURES TOP NHL TEAMS
NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry features a pair of games with teams vying for first place in the NHL standings:

* The Rangers (44-17-7, 95 points) – who currently sit atop the NHL standings – welcome the Blackhawks (42-21-6, 90 points) to Madison Square Garden in the first half of the doubleheader. New York has won five straight contests and has picked up points in 17 of its past 18 outings dating to Feb. 8 (14-1-3). Chicago, meanwhile, has won three in a row and has earned points in six straight (5-0-1), sitting five points back in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy. The Rangers have won the last three meetings between these clubs dating to Jan. 8, 2014, including a 1-0 overtime victory in their lone other matchup of the season on March 8.

* The Ducks (44-20-7) – who are tied with the Rangers with 95 points – then face the Kings (34-22-13, 81 points) in the fifth and final installment of the Freeway Face-Off. Anaheim has posted a 3-0-1 record in the first four meetings of these Southern California rivals (LAK: 1-1-2), including a 4-2 come-from-behind victory in their most recent matchup on Feb. 27. The Ducks hold an 11-point lead over the Canucks (40-25-4, 84 points) for first place in the Pacific Division, while the Kings sit on the fringe of the playoff race – a loss in regulation would drop them behind the Flames (38-27-5, 81 points) and outside of the postseason picture.
