GABORIK LIFTS KINGS PAST SHARKS IN STADIUM SERIES
Marian Gaborik snapped a 1-1 deadlock at 4:04 of the third period to power the Kings past the Sharks in the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

* With the victory, the Kings extended their winning streak to seven games dating to Feb. 7, their longest such run since Feb. 6 – March 10, 2014 (8-0-0).

* Five points on the outside of the playoff picture prior to the streak, the Kings (28-18-12, 68 points) moved into third place in the Pacific Division with Saturday’s victory, leapfrogging the idle Flames (32-23-4, 68 points) and Sharks (30-23-8, 68 points) and moving within one point of the idle Canucks (33-22-3, 69 points).

* Gaborik recorded his 65th career game-winning goal and second of the season (also Nov. 18 vs. FLA). His 65 such markers are tied for ninth among active players (w/ Shane Doan), while his 364 overall goals place 12th.

* Jonathan Quick stopped 31-of-32 shots, including all 22 he faced over the final two periods, to earn his 200th NHL win (200-132-43 in 385 GP). The Kings’ all-time leader in victories and shutouts (34), Quick became the 76th goaltender in NHL history to reach the 200-win milestone (and first w/ LAK).

* Quick has been in net for all seven games during the team’s current winning streak, compiling a 1.86 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in that span. It marks the third time in his career he has posted at least seven consecutive victories, also: Jan. 21 – Feb. 6, 2010 (9-0-0) and Oct. 23 – Nov. 13, 2010 (7-0-0).

* Drew Doughty logged 32:01 of ice-time, establishing a record for most minutes in an NHL outdoor game. The previous mark belonged to Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi, who played 28:35 in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

* Doughty has posted at least 30 minutes of ice-time in 27 of the club’s 58 contests this season. He leads the NHL with an average of 29:28 of ice-time per game.

* Doughty also appeared in his 500th NHL game, surpassing Lubomir Visnovsky to move into sole possession of sixth place in Kings history among defensemen.

* With the lone assist on Gaborik’s goal, Jeff Carter extended his point streak to six games (4-6—10) – one shy of his career high set Oct. 18 – Nov. 2, 2008 (7-3—10 w/ PHI).

* The Kings and Sharks have split their four games thus far in 2014-15 (LAK: 2-2-0, SJS: 2-2-0). The teams close their season series on April 11 at STAPLES Center – the final day of the regular season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* With the Kings’ victory, road teams improved to 11-3-1 in the NHL’s 15 outdoor games. That includes a 6-2-0 mark since the start of the 2013-14 season.

* The victory also reversed a recent trend in the Sharks-Kings rivalry. Entering Saturday, the home team was 15-2-1 in the last 18 regular-season meetings between the clubs dating to Nov. 7, 2011 (SJS: 8‑1‑0, LAK: 7-1-1).

* Kings forward Kyle Clifford scored 2:46 after the opening face-off, snapping a 15-game drought dating to Jan. 10 vs. WPG. It also marked the third-fastest goal from the opening face-off in NHL outdoor game history, behind Colby Armstrong (0:21 for PIT in 2008 WC) and Corey Perry (2:45 for ANA in 2014 SS-LA).

* Sharks defenseman Brent Burns evened the game at 18:56 of the first period with his 16th goal of the season, tied for second among blueliners and one behind League leader Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Burns has 5-1—6 in his past seven outings.

* Kings teammates Anze Kopitar and Robyn Regehr both registered five blocked shots, setting an NHL outdoor game record. Regehr previously shared the record, totaling four blocked shots for the Flames in the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

* Sharks forward Tommy Wingels logged a game-high 11 hits, tied for second in NHL outdoor game history and two off the record set by Scott Hartnell of the Flyers in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

* The Sharks and Kings combined for 94 hits (SJS: 49, LAK: 45), setting a record for an NHL outdoor game. The previous mark of 91 was established by the Rangers and Flyers in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia (NYR: 50, PHI: 41).

* The Kings and Sharks also combined for 32 blocked shots (LAK: 18, SJS: 14), equaling an NHL outdoor game record set in the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston (PHI: 20, BOS: 12).

* Eighteen players on the Sharks’ roster appeared in their first NHL outdoor game (including backup goaltender Alex Stalock). Five Kings players made their NHL outdoor game debuts.

* The Sharks became the 19th team to participate in an NHL outdoor game. The Kings became the eighth club to participate in multiple NHL outdoor games, following their appearance in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Dodger Stadium.

PLAYERS, MEDIA APPLAUD ANOTHER OUTDOOR SUCCESS
“This was by far the coolest sporting even I’ve been a part of. I hope that the NHL continues to put games out here in California. I think it’s great for these teams. I think it’s great for the fans out here and I think it’s great for everyone involved in hockey. I think they’ll say the same thing. This was a pretty cool event. We didn’t get the result we wanted, but I think this will be a memory we’ll cherish for a while.” – Sharks forward Tommy Wingels

“I think for the guys that haven’t played in an [outdoor] game, it’s a good experience. It’s my second outdoor game. It’s a cool experience, especially for the people, to have a game in California here.” – Kings forward Marian Gaborik

“A cool experience, something I’ll definitely never forget for the rest of my life. I think the coolest part was walking out to the ice. And coming off after periods, some of the times you’re coming off alone, and the fans are all standing and cheering and chanting your name individually.” – Sharks forward Logan Couture

“It was loud when we first walked out there too. I got a couple of goose bumps.” – Kings forward Trevor Lewis

“It was incredible. From start to finish, what an atmosphere. It was once in-a-lifetime-type thing for us. With this atmosphere, you want to win and you want to leave this room happy, and it was a good game. We just couldn’t find the back of the net a second time.” – Sharks forward Joe Thornton

“We needed two points. This game was huge for us. It was huge for them.” – Kings defenseman Drew Doughty

“The outcome is very disappointing, but everything else we’re proud of. I think our city and Northern California has to be extremely proud. You take Mr. Gund 25 years ago had a vision of bringing a team here, and brought it here, and a quarter-century later we’re playing an outdoor game with 72,000 people in a brand-new football stadium. Who would have ever thought that could happen? So we have to be excited about participating in that, enjoying the moment and soaking it in. I’d be lying if I said there were a couple of times where guys were slow jumping on the ice because maybe their eyes were wandering, maybe their minds were wandering, but that’s human.” – Sharks head coach Todd McLellan

“I thought it was really, really good . . . For our organization to be able to say we did it two years in a row and two totally different venues. I think everybody involved did a really great job.” – Kings head coach Darryl Sutter

“If the point of Saturday night’s outdoor game between the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings at the 49ers’ stadium was to show off the puck love of Northern California, that mission was accomplished.”Mark Purdy (San Jose Mercury News)

“This was no frozen prairie. There was no need to plug cars into block heaters to be sure they’d start afterward. This was hockey California-style, with a backdrop of makeshift mountains and fake pools and the genuine passion of fans who are establishing California as the epicenter of the sport’s growth.”Helene Elliott (Los Angeles Times)

“The big event turned the home of the 49ers into a celebration of a sport whose games are normally played in indoor arenas with one-fourth the capacity. And fans showed their ability to adapt to the football setting by firing up grills for tailgating parties that filled the air with smoke three hours before the opening faceoff.”David Pollak (San Jose Mercury News)

“The weather Saturday was gorgeous, in the 70s during the day, 57 degrees at faceoff. Fans tailgated – something they can’t do at the SAP Center in San Jose – grilling, drinking and playing street hockey. They jammed the fan festival and listened to a live band. They watched Sharks alumni line up for intros – Owen Nolan, Igor Larionov, Mike Ricci and more – and singer Kris Allen perform. They roared as the teams entered the stadium, the scene decorated like Northern California topography, complete with a replica ocean and fake shark fins.”Nick Cotsonika (Yahoo! Sports)

* The Red Wings trailed 4-2 after 40 minutes before Jakub Kindl scored twice in 45 seconds (his first career multi-goal game) to even the game in the third period. The Stars again went ahead by two goals before the Red Wings ultimately tied the game with a pair of scores in the final 7:13 of regulation.

* Per Elias, the Red Wings became the first team to trail by two (or more) goals in the third period, tie the game and then fall behind by at least two goals again before eventually winning in overtime since Jan. 16, 1934. On that date, the Maple Leafs trailed 2-0 at the start of the third period before tying the game at 2-2; Ottawa then pulled ahead 4-2 before Toronto ultimately forced overtime, where they scored three times for a 7-4 victory.

* Datsyuk posted his first four-point game since Dec. 18, 2008 vs. SJS (2-2—4). Tomas Tatar (0-2—2) also added two points.

* The Red Wings improved to 9-1-1 in their last 11 meetings with the Stars dating to Nov. 12, 2011. They also have won six straight visits to Dallas dating to Dec. 29, 2010.

. . . CANADIENS, LIGHTNING KEEP PACE IN ATLANTIC DIVISION
Both the Canadiens and Lightning also won on Saturday to stay ahead of the Red Wings in the Atlantic Division, where the top three clubs are separated by five points:

* Max Pacioretty (2-0—2) recorded his 26th career multi-goal game and Carey Price made 31 saves to lift the Canadiens to their sixth victory in their past nine outings (6-1-2). Pacioretty has compiled 16-7—23 in 24 games since Dec. 29, including 4-2—6 in his last four appearances. Price improved to 11-1-2 in his last 14 starts; his 33 wins this season rank second in the NHL, one behind League leader Pekka Rinne.

* Ondrej Palat (2-0—2) notched his fifth career multi-goal game and Steven Stamkos added his 32nd goal of the season to propel the Lightning to their third victory in their past four starts. Palat has 3-3—6 in his past four outings; Elias says his 33 road points (9-24—33) are tied for second in the NHL this season (w/ Ryan Getzlaf: 12-21—33).

METROPOLITAN CLUBS NARROW GAP ON ISLANDERS
Both the Capitals and Penguins also won on Saturday to narrow the gap in the Metropolitan Division, where the top four teams are separated by five points:

* Braden Holtby made 30 saves through overtime and denied all three attempts he faced in the shootout to backstop the Capitals to their fourth consecutive victory. Evgeny Kuznetsov potted the lone goal in the tiebreaker, improving to 7-for-13 all-time (53.8%). Nicklas Backstrom picked up one assist to move into sole possession of the League lead in scoring (18-46—64).

* Blake Comeau registered 2-1—3, including his seventh career three-point game, to help the Penguins snap a three-game skid (0-2-1). Thomas Greiss made 21 saves to earn his second straight win and improve to 7-3-3 overall this season (14 GP). Patric Hornqvist and Brandon Sutter supplied the other goals.

GETZLAF PROPELS DUCKS PAST OILERS
Ryan Getzlaf broke a 1-1 tie with 7:13 remaining in regulation to power the Ducks to their second win in as many nights.

* At 37-16-7 (81 points), the Ducks moved within four points of the Predators (39-13-7, 85 points) – who lost in a shootout – for first place in the Western Conference and NHL standings.

* Getzlaf recorded his fifth game-winning goal of the season. He paces the club with 19-38—57, which also ranks 11th in the League. Getzlaf has 14-22—36 in 33 career appearances vs. EDM (2-1—3 in 3 GP this season).

* Corey Perry (700) and Andrew Cogliano (600) both played in milestone games. Cogliano, a first-round selection (25th overall) by the Oilers in the 2005 NHL Draft, became the third player in NHL history to skate in at least 600 consecutive games to begin his career. The others to achieve that feat: Doug Jarvis (964) and Andy Hebenton (630).

* The Ducks improved to 25-0-7 in one-goal games this season; they are the only team yet to suffer a regulation loss in that scenario.

AROUND THE RINKS
Notes from the rest of Saturday’s 11-game slate:

* The Predators evened the game in the first minute of the third period, but Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds both scored in the shootout to lift the Flyers to a 7-1-4 record in their past 12 games dating to Jan. 20. At 25-23-11 (61 points), the Flyers moved within four points of the idle Bruins (28-21-9, 65 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Simmonds also found the back of the net in regulation to stretch his point streak to a career-high seven games (5-4—9). Rob Zepp made 20 saves and denied both attempts he faced in the tiebreaker to improve 4-1-0 in seven career appearances.
