RANGERS RALLY PAST ISLANDERS, NARROW DIVISION GAP . . .
Facing a 5-3 deficit early in the third period, the Rangers scored three unanswered goals – capped by Kevin Klein’s tiebreaking marker with 4:32 remaining in regulation – to pick up their fourth consecutive victory overall and first win over the rival Islanders this season (NYR: 1-3-0, NYI: 3-1-0).

* At 34-16-5 (73 points), the Rangers leapfrogged the idle Penguins (32-15-9, 73 points) to move into second place in the Metropolitan Division, where the top four teams are separated by five points:

* The Rangers improved to 15-4-1 versus the Metropolitan Division this season, including wins in 12 of their last 14 intradivision games. They close their season series with the Islanders on March 10 at Nassau Coliseum.

* The Rangers also erased a 3-1 deficit with goals 23 seconds apart in the second period. Elias says the team overcame two (or more) multi-goal deficits to win in regulation for the first time since Oct. 26, 1980 vs. DET.

* The Rangers went 4-0-0 on their four-game road trip, including wins at TOR (5-4), at COL (6-3), at ARI (5-1) and at NYI (6-5). Per Elias, that ties an NHL record for most consecutive victories in one season, all on the road, while scoring at least five goals in each game. It has been achieved six other times, most recently by the Oilers from Nov. 6-12, 1983. The Rangers also have accomplished that feat once before, from Jan. 23-31, 1981.

* Klein (1-1—2) snapped a 16-game drought with his first goal since Jan. 8 at LAK. He also extended his assist/point streak to five contests (1-6—7).

* After posting two game-winning goals in his first 433 career outings prior to 2014-15, Klein has four such markers this season (54 GP) – tied for second among defensemen.

* Derek Stepan led all players with 1-2—3, his fourth three-point performance of the season. Ryan McDonagh (2-0—2) notched his first career multi-goal game.

* Chris Kreider and Martin St. Louis both added 1-1—2. St. Louis snapped a 15-game drought with his first goal since Jan. 10 at SJS.

DID YOU KNOW?
Although the Islanders lost 6-5, they outshot the Rangers 43-42. Per Elias, it marked the first non-overtime NHL game in which both teams scored at least five goals and registered at least 40 shots on goal since Oct. 12, 1993, when the Kings defeated the Islanders 7-5 and outshot them 51-43.

. . . CANADIENS BLANK RED WINGS, CREATE SPACE ATOP EAST
Carey Price stopped all 25 shots he faced and Tomas Plekanec broke a 0-0 deadlock with 2:30 remaining in regulation to lead the Canadiens to their fifth victory in their past six outings (5-0-1).

* At 37-15-4 (78 points), the Canadiens moved two points ahead of the Lightning (35-18-6, 76 points) – who lost on Monday – for the top spot in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. They also moved within four points of the idle Predators (38-12-6, 82 points) for first place in the NHL standings, where the top 12 teams are separated by 12 points:

* Price recorded his 30th career shutout, all with the Canadiens, to move past Patrick Roy (29) and into sole possession of fifth place in franchise history. Only George Hainsworth (75), Jacques Plante (58), Ken Dryden (46) and Bill Durnan (34) have posted more shutouts for Montreal.

* Price also became the first Canadiens goaltender to earn a shutout at Joe Louis Arena. The last Montreal goaltender to blank the Red Wings in Detroit was Michel Larocque, who did so at Olympia Stadium on March 27, 1977 (6-0 W).

* Price extended his personal winning streak to five games, compiling a 0.98 goals-against average, .963 save percentage and one shutout in that span. Overall, he ranks in the top five this season in wins (2nd; 32), goals-against average (1st; 1.93), save percentage (1st; .935) and shutouts (t-4th; 5).

* Plekanec and Max Pacioretty both registered 1-1—2. Plekanec notched his 30th career game-winning goal (and fourth of the season), while Pacioretty scored into an empty net for his team-leading 26th marker and 48th point.

* The Canadiens picked up their fifth consecutive victory over the Red Wings dating to March 27, 2014. They last earned five straight head-to-head wins from Oct. 10, 1991 – Dec. 18, 1993 (6-0-0). The clubs close their season series on April 9 at Bell Centre.

JETS OVERCOME THREE DEFICITS TO PAD WILD CARD LEAD
Andrew Ladd scored the tying goal with 4:04 remaining in regulation and Blake Wheeler potted the lone marker in the shootout to propel the Jets to their fourth victory in their past five games.

* At 30-19-10 (70 points), the Jets padded their lead for the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, moving four points ahead of the idle Sharks (29-21-8, 66 points). They also moved within four points of the idle Blackhawks (35-18-4, 74 points) for third place in the Central Division.

* The Jets overcame three one-goal deficits (2-1, 3-2 and 4-3). Per Elias, the franchise last erased three separate deficits to win on Dec. 17, 2009, a 6-5 overtime win by the Thrashers vs. DAL.

* Bryan Little (2-1—3) registered his fourth three-point game of the season. It also marked his first multi-goal performance since Dec. 5 vs. COL, when he established career highs for goals (3) and points (4) in one contest.

* Ladd reached the 20-goal milestone for the fourth time in his career, all with the Jets/Thrashers. Elias says he is the fourth player in franchise history to post at least four 20-goal seasons, joining Ilya Kovalchuk (8), Slava Kozlov (5) and Little (4).

* Tyler Myers added his first goal in a Winnipeg uniform. Toby Enstrom and Wheeler both collected two assists.

* Michael Hutchinson made 18 saves through overtime and denied all three shootout attempts he faced to pick up his third consecutive win, all of which have required extra time. He leads rookie goaltenders with 17 wins this season, one ahead of Jake Allen.

* The Jets recorded their fourth victory in their past five meetings with the Oilers dating to Oct. 1, 2013.

CANUCKS, FLAMES AND KINGS KEEP PACE IN PACIFIC
The Canucks, Flames and Kings all won on Monday to keep pace in the tight Pacific Division race, where teams No. 2-5 are separated by three points:

* Making his NHL debut, Alex Biega scored what proved to be the game-winning goal to lift the Canucks to their third victory in their past four starts. A fifth-round pick (147th overall) by the Sabres in the 2006 NHL Draft, Biega became the fourth Canucks player notch his first NHL goal this season, joining Bo Horvat, Ronalds Kenins and Linden Vey. Elias says Biega also became the first Canucks defenseman to score in his NHL debut since Jan. 26, 2011 (Lee Sweatt).

* Henrik Sedin posted 1-1—2 to take over the team lead in scoring (10-38—48), one point ahead of his brother Daniel (13-34—47). Chris Higgins added one helper to extend his assist/point streak to five games (0-6—6).

The Flames overcame a 3-0 deficit for the second time this season; they also accomplished that feat in a 4-3 overtime victory on Dec. 22 at LAK.

* Brodie notched his second career overtime goal (also Jan. 28, 2014 vs. CHI). Jiri Hudler powered the team’s comeback with two goals in the third period, including the tying marker with 5:09 remaining in regulation.

* Mark Giordano matched a career high with three assists, established March 26, 2011 at EDM. Sean Monahan added a pair of helpers for the Flames, who snapped a five-game losing streak to the Bruins dating to March 27, 2010.

* Knotted at 1-1 after 40 minutes, Jordan Nolan and Jeff Carter both found the back of the net in the third period to power the Kings to their fifth consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since Oct. 12-26 (6-0-0).

* Dwight King collected two assists to extend his point streak to a career-high four games (3-4—7). Jonathan Quick made 21 saves; he has been in net for all five games during the team’s winning streak, compiling a 2.20 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in that span.

* The Kings improved to 19-6-6 this season at STAPLES Center. Their 44 points through 31 home games are a franchise record, eclipsing the previous mark of 43 achieved in 1974-75 and 2005-06.
