ISLANDERS STORM PAST FLYERS TO RECLAIM FIRST PLACE
Nikolay Kulemin posted 2-1—3, including his third shorthanded goal of the season, to propel the Islanders to their fifth victory in their past six outings.

* At 31-14-1 (63 points), the Islanders leapfrogged the idle Lightning (29-14-4, 62 points) and Red Wings (26-11-9, 61 points) to reclaim first place in the Eastern Conference. They also moved five points ahead of the idle Penguins (26-12-6, 58 points) in the Metropolitan Division.

* The Islanders’ 31 wins in their opening 46 games match a franchise record established in 1978-79 (31-6-9). The team also has won 16 of its first 20 home games for the first time since 1978-79 (16-0-4), equaling another franchise record.

* Kulemin notched his first multi-goal game since March 24, 2011 at COL (2-0—2 w/ TOR) and second three-point performance of the season (also Oct. 25 vs. DAL: 1-2—3). His three shorthanded goals are tied for second in the NHL, one behind League leader Tyler Toffoli. The Islanders pace the NHL with eight total shorthanded markers, one more than the Jets.

* Four other Islanders registered multi-point games: Michael Grabner (1-1—2), Nick Leddy (1-1—2), John Tavares (1-1—2) and Johnny Boychuk (0-2—2), who celebrated his 31st birthday.

* Anders Lee found the back of the net to stretch his point streak to a career-high five games (4-1—5). His 13 goals this season (40 GP) are tied for third among rookies, two behind League leaders Filip Forsberg and Mike Hoffman.

* The Islanders matched their best offensive output of the season, reaching seven goals for the second time in 2014-15 (also Oct. 25 vs. DAL: 7-5 W). The team scored seven (or more) goals against the Flyers for the first time since Jan. 23, 1993, when Tom Kurvers posted 2-2—4 to lead the Islanders to an 8-4 victory at Nassau Coliseum.

SCHWARTZ HELPS BLUES EXTEND HOT STREAK
Jaden Schwartz recorded 1-1—2, including the tiebreaking goal early in the second period, to help the Blues extend their point streak to a season-high eight games (7-0-1).

* At 29-13-4 (62 points), the Blues moved within two points of the idle Predators (30-10-4, 64 points) for first place in the Central Division. Nashville, however, holds two games in hand and owns the ROW tiebreaker (NSH: 26, STL: 25).

* Schwartz scored his sixth career game-winning goal and third this season (also Nov. 15 vs. WSH and Jan. 13 vs. EDM). He has 7-7—14 in his past 11 appearances dating to Dec. 11.

* Alexander Steen collected two assists to extend his point streak to 10 games (7-11—18), marking the longest such run by a Blues player since Steen set a career high with a 13-game point streak Oct. 17 – Nov. 16, 2013 (13-5—18).

* David Backes added one helper to push his point streak to seven contests (7-7—14), establishing a career high.

* Brian Elliott made 17 saves to improve to 13-5-2 with a 1.86 goals-against average, .930 save percentage and three shutouts in 22 appearances this season. His 1.86 goals-against average paces the NHL, while his .930 save percentage ranks fourth.

* The Blues completed their five-game season series against the Avalanche with a 4-1-0 record, including three wins on home ice. The club also improved to 8-1-0 in its last nine head-to-head meetings with Colorado at Scottrade Center dating to April 5, 2011.

WIDEMAN, FLAMES EDGE KINGS IN OVERTIME . . .
Dennis Wideman scored with 52.0 seconds remaining in overtime to power the Flames to their fourth consecutive victory, matching a season high achieved two previous times (also Nov. 26 – Dec. 4 and Dec. 22-31).

* At 25-18-3 (53 points), the Flames moved one point ahead of the Kings (20-14-12, 52 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They also moved within one point of the Sharks (24-17-6, 54 points) – who lost on Monday – for third place in the Pacific Division.

* The Flames picked up their fifth straight road victory, their longest such winning streak since Feb. 12 – March 5, 2009 (6-0-0). Overall, they are 14-9-1 as visitors this season; their 14 road wins are tied for third in the NHL, while their 29 road points share fourth.

* Wideman notched his 14th career game-winning goal and fourth in overtime (also Oct. 27, 2008 at EDM; Jan. 11, 2011 at FLA; and Oct. 13, 2011 at PIT). He has 12 overall goals this season (45 GP), tied for first among defensemen with Dustin Byfuglien, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Erik Johnson.

* Sean Monahan potted the tying goal with 6:05 remaining in regulation, finding the back of the net for the third consecutive game (3-1—4). He also scored in three straight contests Nov. 4-8 (3-1—4).

* Making his fourth consecutive start, Joni Ortio recorded 33 saves, including 17 in the second period, to improve to 4-0-0 with a 1.23 goals-against average, .958 save percentage and one shutout in four appearances this season.

* The Flames earned their fourth straight win over the Kings dating to April 9, 2014, including a 3-0-0 mark in 2014-15.

. . . CANUCKS STAY AHEAD, SHARKS SLIP IN PACIFIC
The Canucks edged the Panthers, while the Sharks fell to the Devils in the crowded Pacific Division race:


* After posting back-to-back shutouts on Thursday and Friday, Ryan Miller denied 23-of-24 shots to guide the Canucks to their third straight victory. Miller has made 81 saves during the three-game winning streak, compiling a 0.33 goals-against average and .988 save percentage.

* Per Elias, Miller extended his shutout streak to 200:45 before allowing a goal to Brandon Pirri at 17:28 of the third period. That establishes a career high for Miller, whose previous longest shutout streak was 161:35, set Nov. 27 – Dec. 7, 2010 (w/ BUF).

* Radim Vrbata notched his team-leading 18th goal of the season. Bo Horvat contributed the game-winning marker, the first such tally of his career.

* Five different players scored to lift the Devils to their first win in San Jose since March 2, 2010 (0-2-0). Former Sharks Scott Gomez (0-2—2) and Martin Havlat (0-1—1) both contributed points to power New Jersey to a 2-1-0 mark on its three-game swing through California.

* Playing his first game since Dec. 27, Jacob Josefson registered 1-1—2, including his second shorthanded goal of the season (also Oct. 28 at PIT). Josefson also collected his second career multi-point game and first since March 12, 2011 vs. NYI (1-1—2).

* Making his League-leading 41st start of the season, Cory Schneider recorded 34 saves, including 18 in the third period, to pick up his 16th win (2.41 GAA, .920 SV%, 2 SO).

WISNIEWSKI LEADS BLUE JACKETS PAST WILD
James Wisniewski posted 1-2—3, including the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, to lead the Blue Jackets to their second straight win following a four-game skid.

* Wisniewski collected his second game-winning goal (also Nov. 14 at PHI: 2-0—2) and second three-point performance (also Nov. 8 vs. TBL: 0-3—3) of the season. He leads Blue Jackets defensemen and ranks fourth on the team with 5-17—22 in 41 contests.

* Scott Hartnell (1-1—2) also recorded a multi-point game, his eighth of the season and first since Jan. 6 at DAL (0-2—2).

* Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves, including a stop of Zach Parise on a second-period penalty shot. Bobrovsky snapped a four-game personal skid, improving to 16-14-2 with a 2.80 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and one shutout in 32 appearances this season.

* The Blue Jackets have stopped 21-of-27 penalty shot attempts against in franchise history (.778 SV%). Bobrovsky has denied all three attempts he has faced as a member of the club.

* The Blue Jackets picked up their fifth straight win over the Wild dating to April 13, 2013.

STAAL, HURRICANES CLIP MAPLE LEAFS
Eric Staal scored twice to lead the Hurricanes to their third victory in their past four outings.

* The Hurricanes also picked up their third straight win over the Maple Leafs dating to Jan. 9, 2014, and improved to 9-2-1 in their past 12 meetings dating to Nov. 20, 2011.

* Staal has found the back of the net eight times in his last 11 contests, totaling 8-1—9 in that span. He now has 19-22—41 in 37 career games against the Maple Leafs, including 12-9—21 in 21 appearances at Air Canada Centre.

* Brother Jordan Staal registered two assists for his first multi-point performance since March 25, 2014 vs. NYI (0-2—2).

* Elias Lindholm added his fourth game-winning goal of the season (46 GP). Six of his 18 career tallies (33.3%) have been decisive markers.

* Anton Khudobin made 34 saves, including 15 in the final period, to pick up his fifth straight win following a 0-8-2 start to the season.

LOOSE PUCKS
Flyers forward Jakub Voracek collected two helpers for his 17th multi-point performance of the season (47 GP). He leads the League in assists (38) and points (55) . . . Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen failed to reach the scoresheet, snapping his franchise-record point streak at 13 contests (8-8—16) . . . Sharks forward Joe Pavelski scored his 23rd goal of the season, which ranks sixth in the NHL . . . Wild forward Zach Parise found the back of the net for the third straight game (3-1—4), his first such streak since March 27-31, 2014 (4-1—5 in 3 GP) . . . Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri netted his first power-play goal since April 5, 2014 vs. WPG . . . Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo made 21 saves, but lost to the Canucks for the second time in three meetings since a March 2014 trade (1-1-1) . . . Avalanche forward Matt Duchene scored his 13th goal of the season, tied for the team lead with Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay . . . The Kings completed their season-long, seven-game homestand with a 1-2-4 record . . . Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner (300), Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo (200) and Canucks defenseman Christopher Tanev (200) all played in milestone games . . . Dean Lombardi tied Rogie Vachon as the longest-tenured general manager in Kings history (668 GP) . . . The Oilers named Bob Green director of player personnel . . . The Department of Player Safety suspended Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo for six games for cross-checking Jets forward Mathieu Perreault . . . Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar and Islanders forward Kyle Okposo were named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Jan. 18.

PENGUINS, FLYERS RENEW KEYSTONE STATE RIVALRY
The Penguins visit the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center in the second edition of the Battle of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia has won the last five meetings between these clubs dating to Nov. 13, 2013, including a 5-3 victory in their first matchup of 2014-15 on Oct. 22 at CONSOL Energy Center. Pittsburgh, however, has earned points in five of its past six regular-season trips to the City of Brotherly Love dating to Feb. 18, 2012 (4-1-1). Overall, the Flyers have lost three of their past four outings, including a 7-4 defeat to the Islanders on Monday. The Penguins, meanwhile, have dropped two straight to Metropolitan Division rivals, falling to the Islanders on Friday and Rangers on Sunday.

TOP CLUBS FACE OFF IN MONTREAL
Two of the top teams in the NHL face off when the Predators visit the Canadiens at Bell Centre. At 30-10-4, Nashville ranks second in the League with 64 points. Montreal, meanwhile, places seventh in the overall standings with a 28-13-3 record (59 points). This marks the first meeting between these clubs since Dec. 21, 2013, when the Canadiens picked up a 4-3 overtime victory at Bridgestone Arena on the strength of a David Desharnais goal. Overall, the Predators are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday; the team has yet to drop consecutive games this season. The Canadiens have picked up points in three of their past four decisions (2-1-1), including a 6-4 triumph over the Islanders on Saturday.
