ZETTERBERG RECORDS HAT TRICK IN DETROIT’S RALLY OVER BUFFALO
Facing a 3-0 deficit at the start of the second period, the Detroit Red Wings scored five consecutive goals and skated to a 6-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings improved to 26-11-9 (61 points) this season and passed the idle Montreal Canadiens for second in the Atlantic Division standings. With the win, Detroit also concluded their season series against Buffalo with a 3-1-0 record.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time Detroit rallied from a three-goal deficit and won was earlier this season on Nov. 28, 2014 when they overcame a 4-1 deficit to defeat the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in a shootout.

* Henrik Zetterberg (3-1—4) scored three goals in the third period to record his first hat trick since Feb. 1, 2013 in a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. Zetterberg’s hat trick was the sixth of his career. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last member of the Red Wings to record a hat trick via three goals in one period was Johan Franzen, who scored a trio in the third period on Feb. 2, 2011 in a 7-5 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Franzen finished the game with five goals.

* The performance was also Zetterberg’s second four-point game of the season; his first was on Oct. 17, 2014 when he recorded four assists in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The four points also brought Zetterberg’s career point-total to 761 (293-468—761), passing Norm Ullman for sole possession of seventh on the franchise’s all-time points list.


* In the second appearance of his career, Tom McCollum made seven saves in relief of Petr Mrazek to record his first career NHL win. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, McCollum is the second goaltender this season to record his first career win in relief; Calvin Pickard of the Colorado Avalanche did so on Nov. 22, 2014 in a 4-3 regulation win over the Carolina Hurricanes in relief of Reto Berra.


* Tomas Tatar (1-1—2) scored his 21st goal and added his 13th assist to record his seventh multi-point game of the season. The performance also extended Tatar’s point streak to five games (5-3—8), which includes five goals in his last four games.

* Gustav Nyquist (1-1—2) scored his 18th goal on a power-play and added his 16th assist to post his eighth multi-point performance of the season. Nyquist has four points (2-2—4) in his last two games and has recorded consecutive multi-point games for the first time this season. The marker was also Nyquist’s team-leading 10th power-play goal of the season.

* Danny DeKeyser (0-2—2) posted his second multi-point performance of the season; his first was on Dec. 23, 2014 (1-1—2) in a 6-3 win also against the Sabres.

* Head coach Mike Babcock was behind the bench for the 914th game of his career, tying Toe Blake for 28th on the NHL’s all-time list among head coaches.

EAKIN’S CAREER NIGHT LEADS DALLAS OVER CHICAGO
Cody Eakin (2-1—3) recorded his fifth multi-point game of the season to lead the Dallas Stars to a 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Stars have earned points in seven of their last eight road games (5-1-2) to improve to 21-17-7 (49 points) this season, two points behind the Calgary Flames for the second wild card spot. The win is Dallas’ 100th over Chicago in franchise history; the Stars are the fourth club to win 100 games against the Blackhawks after the Los Angeles Kings (109), the St. Louis Blues (104) and the Detroit Red Wings (103).

* This was Eakin’s first career three-point game and his first career multi-goal performance. Eakin’s tally in the opening period was his career-high second shorthanded goal of the season; his first was on Nov. 18, 2014 in a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Eakin’s third period marker (also the game-winner) was his second power-play goal of the season; his other came on Dec. 6, 2014 in a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last member of the Stars franchise to score a shorthanded goal and a power-play goal in a game was Steve Ott, who did it on March 31, 2010 in a 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

* Jamie Benn (0-3—3) posted his 10th multi-point game of the season and has earned four points (1-3—4) in his last two outings. Benn, who leads the Stars in assists this season (27) and ranks second on the team in points (13-27—40), has also earned points in four consecutive road games (1-5—6).

* Tyler Seguin (1-1—2) opened the scoring with his 28th goal and added an assist to post his 17th multi-point performance of the season. This was the second straight multi-point game for Seguin, who is tied for the League-lead in goals this season and also ranks second in the League in points (28-24—52), one behind Jakub Voracek (17-36—53).

* Defensemen Alex Goligoski (0-2—2) and John Klingberg (0-2—2) each recorded two assists to post their eighth and fifth multi-point performances of the season, respectively. Goligoski leads club defensemen in points this season (1-22—23) while Klingberg ranks third (6-12—18).

* Kari Lehtonen stopped 38 of 41 shots to improve to 19-9-7 this season with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. Lehtonen’s 38 saves were his third-highest total this season; he made 43 saves on Oct. 21, 2014 in a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks and he also made 41 saves on Nov. 16, 2014 in a 6-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

* Shawn Horcoff (1-0—1) scored his sixth goal of the season with an empty-net marker. Horcoff has earned points in five consecutive road games (2-3—5). Jason Spezza (0-1—1) recorded his 25th assist of the season. Spezza has earned points in each of his last four road games (1-3—4) and ranks third on the club in points this season (8-25—33).

RANGERS CONCLUDE SEASON SERIES WITH WIN OVER PENGUINS
Five different skaters for the New York Rangers posted multi-point games in a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers have won 15 of their last 18 games (15-3-0) to improve to 26-13-4 (56 points) this season. The Rangers have now earned at least one point in 14 of their last 15 games against Metropolitan Division opponents (13-1-1) and have won 10 of their last 11 intra-division games (10-1-0).

* The Rangers concluded their season series against the Penguins with a 3-0-1 result marking the first time the Rangers earned at least one point in every regular season game against Pittsburgh since the 1996-97 season (4-0-0). The Rangers have also earned at least one point in five straight regular season games against the Penguins (4-0-1) and in nine of their last 10 contests (6-1-3) dating to a 6-1 win on April 3, 2013.

* Derick Brassard (1-1—2) is tied for the team-lead in assists (23) this season and is tied for second on the club in points (12-13—35). He has now registered at least one point in eight consecutive regular season games against Pittsburgh (4-6—9).

* Rick Nash (2-0—2) opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the first period and added the game-winner to bring his goal-total to 28 on the season, tied with Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars for the League-lead in goals. His second tally was also his team-leading fifth game-winning goal and the performance was Nash’s 10th multi-point game of the season.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Nash’s first marker stood as the third-fastest game-opening goal of his career; he scored 10 seconds into a Jan. 11, 2006 game also versus Pittsburgh and 22 seconds into a Feb. 12, 2010 game versus the Vancouver Canucks.

* Derek Stepan (2-0—2) posted his eighth multi-point game of the season. Stepan, who registered two assists on Jan. 16 in a 2-1 regulation win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, has now recorded consecutive multi-point performances for the first time this season.

* Martin St. Louis (0-2—2) recorded his ninth multi-point game of the season. St. Louis is tied for second on the club in points (14-21—35) this season and ranks third on the Rangers in assists.

* Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 of 34 shots to improve to 22-9-3 this season with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. The victory is also the 331st career win for Lundqvist passing Harry Lumley for sole possession of 21st on the NHL’s all-time wins list among goaltenders. With the victory, Lundqvist improved to 3-0-1 in four appearances versus Pittsburgh this season and 6-1-3 in his last 10 regular season games against the club.

LITTLE LIFTS JETS TO SHOOTOUT VICTORY OVER COYOTES
Bryan Little (1-0—1) netted the lone goal of the shootout to propel the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Winnipeg’s fourth straight win improved their record to 25-14-8 (58 points) this season and tied the Chicago Blackhawks for third in Central Division standings points (CHI has two games in hand). The Jets have also earned points in their last six games (5-0-1) dating to a 5-4 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 10.

* In addition to the shootout-winner, Little opened the scoring with his team-leading 18th goal of the season. Little’s tally in the shootout was his second shootout goal of the season in six attempts. Both of Little’s shootout markers this season have stood as game-deciding goals.

* Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves through 65 minutes and stopped all three Arizona shooters in the shootout to improve to 12-10-6 this season with a 2.47 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. Pavelec also improved to 3-4 in shootouts this season and has stopped 17 of 26 shots faced for a .654 shootout save percentage.

* Dustin Byfuglien (1-0—1) scored his 12th goal of the season and has recorded nine points (3-6—9) in his last six games. Byfuglien is tied for the League-lead in goals among defensemen this season.

LOOSE PUCKS
Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang (0-2—2) registered his ninth multi-point game of the season and extended his point streak to four games (1-6—7). The performance is also Letang’s third consecutive multi-point game... Pittsburgh forward David Perron (1-1—2) recorded his fifth multi-point game of the season and extended his point streak to three games (4-2—6). Two of Perron’s five multi-point games this season have come during his current point streak... Chicago forward Brandon Saad (2-0—2) extended his point streak to four games (4-1—5). Saad has scored eight goals in his last 10 games (8-1—9)... Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook (0-2—2) posted his fourth multi-point performance of the season... Chicago forward Jonathan Toews (0-1—1) extended his point streak to a season-high five games (0-7—7)... Arizona forward Shane Doan (0-2—2) posted his sixth multi-point performance of the season tonight against the Jets. Doan, the only former member of the original Winnipeg Jets still in the NHL, has registered six points in his last four games (2-4—6)... Arizona defenseman Keith Yandle (0-2—2) registered his sixth multi-point game of the season and extended his point streak to three games (0-4—4). The performance also brought Yandle’s career point-total to 300 (65-235—300)... Arizona defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (1-0—1) scored his 12th goal of the season and is tied for the League-lead in goals among defensemen this season... Buffalo forward Tyler Ennis (2-1—3) recorded his third three-point game of the season... Buffalo defenseman Nikita Zadorov (0-2—2) recorded his second multi-point game of the season which was also the second of his career; his other such performance was on Dec. 13, 2014 in a 4-3 overtime win versus the Florida Panthers (1-1—2)... Defenseman Marc Staal and the New York Rangers agreed to terms on a contract extension following the game against Pittsburgh.

AVALANCHE MEET BLUES IN ST LOUIS ON NBCSN
The Blues are in the midst of a stretch that sees them play seven straight home games, including six in a row leading into the All-Star Break. They have gone 4-0-1 on the homestand thus far. Alexander Steen is on a nine game point streak (7-9—16) while David Backes has a point in six straight games (7-6—13). Colorado has earned at least one point in six of its last seven games (4-1-2). This is the Avalanche’s last stop on their five game road trip.
