CAPTAINS LIFT LIGHTNING, ISLANDERS TO VICTORIES
Steven Stamkos and John Tavares each netted the game-winning goal for their respective clubs to advance their position in the Eastern Conference race. The Lightning (27-12-4, 58 points) remain atop the Eastern Conference and moved into a tie with the Predators (27-9-4, 58 points) and Ducks (26-10-6, 58 points) for most points in the NHL. The Islanders (27-13-1, 55 points) leapfrogged the Penguins and Canadiens to sit second in the Eastern Conference and first in the Metropolitan Division.

* Stamkos broke a 1-1 tie with 5:18 remaining in the third period to lift the Lightning to their fifth straight win at Amalie Arena and seventh win in their last eight games overall (since Dec. 23). It was Stamkos' 37th career game-winning goal and fourth this season, which shares fifth in the League. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, all four of Stamkos' game-winning goals this season have been against Atlantic Division rivals (one each vs. Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Buffalo).

* Ben Bishop stopped 20 shots to improve to 21-6-2 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. Bishop has earned wins in each of his past five decisions.

* The Lightning set a new franchise record for most shots in a period with 27 in the second period. According to Elias, Sabres goaltender Michal Neuvirth also set a new team record for saves in a period, after stopping all 27.

* Tavares (2-1—3) tied the game with 6:03 remaining in regulation and potted the game-winner at 3:05 of overtime to rally the Islanders to their fifth straight win over the Devils (dating to Mar. 29, 2014). According to Elias, Tavares is the first Islanders player to force overtime in the final 10 minutes and then score in the extra frame since Pat LaFontaine on Mar. 11, 1989 vs. NJD.

* Tavares scored his seventh career overtime goal – and third this season (also Nov. 5 at ANA and Nov. 26 vs. WSH) – to extend his franchise record in that category. Since Tavares began his NHL career in 2009-10, only Alex Ovechkin and Stamkos have more regular-season overtime goals (8).

*The Islanders are off to their second-best 41-game start – in terms of wins – in franchise history (28 wins in 1978-79). They last had at least 55 points at the 41-game mark in 1981-82 (also 55 points).

PANTHERS, MAPLE LEAFS CHASE WILD CARD SPOT
Both the Panthers (19-11-9, 47 points) and Maple Leafs (22-17-3, 47 points) earned victories on Friday to move within one point of the idle Bruins (21-15-6, 48 points) for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

* Tomas Fleischmann (1-1—2) scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers just 45 seconds after the Flames had knotted the score at 5-5 with 3:45 remaining in regulation. The victory lifted the Panthers to their third win in their last four outings.

* Fleischmann potted the 20th game-winning goal of his career and first since Dec. 5, 2013 vs. WPG. He has 5-6—11 this season, including two multi-point performances (also 1-1—2 on Dec. 4 vs. CBJ).

* Jonathan Huberdeau (1-1—2) posted his second straight multi-point game, following 2-1—3 Thursday at VAN. He has recorded back-to-back multi-point games once before: 1-1—2 vs. BUF on Mar. 28, 2013 and 0-2—2 two nights later vs. NJD.

* James van Riemsdyk posted 2-1—3 to match a career high for points in a game and help the Maple Leafs snap a three-game skid. It marked van Riemsdyk’s third game with at least three points this season (also 1-2—3 on Nov. 12 vs. BOS and 1-2—3 on Dec. 23 at DAL). He has 5-6—11 over his last eight games and ranks second among Maple Leafs with 40 points (19-21—40) in 42 appearances.

* Phil Kessel (1-1—2) registered his 14th multi-point game of 2014-15 to move into a share of eighth in the League with 43 points (19-24—43) in 42 appearances. He skated in his 406th consecutive game with the Maple Leafs to surpass Sid Smith for the second-longest consecutive games played streak in franchise history. Tim Horton, who played 486 consecutive games from 1961-68, holds the franchise’s longest such streak.

* Tyler Bozak (1-1—2), Daniel Winnik (1-1—2) and Cody Franson (0-2—2) also recorded multiple points for the Maple Leafs, who erased a 1-0 deficit with four goals in a span of 8:53 during the first period.

ROY LEADS OILERS OVER BLACKHAWKS
Derek Roy (1-2—3) and Jeff Petry (1-0—1, first career game-winning goal) helped the Oilers snap a five-game skid against the Blackhawks and earn their first home win against the club since Feb. 2, 2012.

* Roy registered his first three-point performance since Nov. 14, 2013 vs. COL while a member of the Blues. He now has 2-3—5 in six appearances since joining the Oilers via trade on Dec. 29.

* Ben Scrivens stopped 19 shots to improve to 3-0-2 with a 2.12 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in his last five games.

* Taylor Hall (1-1—2) and Nail Yakupov (1-1—2) also posted multiple points for the Oilers. Hall leads the club with 11-16—27 in 36 contests.

LOOSE PUCKS
Ryan Johansen scored both Blue Jackets goals to stretch his career best goal streak to five games and tie Alex Ovechkin for the longest active scoring streak in the NHL. Johansen, who matched a franchise record with a 10-game point streak earlier this season, has a point in each of his past nine outings since Dec. 18 (6-5—11)… Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno stretched his point streak to six games (1-8—9), including five straight games with an assist… Panthers goaltender Al Montoya stopped 25 shots to earn his third win of the season and first win since Nov. 28… Sean Bergenheim and Brad Boyes each contributed a goal and an assist while Dave Bolland (0-2—2) registered his first multi-point game in a Panthers uniform… Interim head coach Peter Horachek earned his first victory behind the Maple Leafs bench… Flames forward Lance Bouma set a career high with three assists/points… Flames teammates T.J. Brodie and Matt Stajan each contributed two goals while Mikael Backlund (1-1—2) posted his second straight two-point game since returning from a 29-game absence… Sabres goaltender Michael Neuvirth stopped 45 shots, including a franchise record 27 saves in the second period… Brandon Saad scored both Blackhawks goals to eclipse 100 career points (41-60—101 in 168 GP). Teammates Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa each contributed two assists… The Blue Jackets re-signed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to a four-year contract extension through the 2018-19 season… The Los Angeles Sports Council named Kings President and General Manager Dean Lombardi as the 2014 Sports Executive of the Year.
