VLASIC’S LAST-SECOND GOAL PROPELS SHARKS PAST JETS
Knotted at 2-2, Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored the tiebreaking goal with 4.5 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Sharks to their second victory in their past three outings.

* With the win, the Sharks moved into a tie – in terms of points – with the Canucks and Kings for second place in the Pacific Division.

* Per Elias, Vlasic’s tally at 19:55 of the third period marked the second-latest game-winning goal (in regulation) in Sharks history. The franchise record belongs to Jonathan Cheechoo, who scored at 19:56 of the final frame to lift the Sharks to 5-4 victory on Oct. 28, 2005 at LAK.

* Vlasic became the 11th player to post a game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation this season and the second to do so for the Sharks:

^ 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic

* Vlasic recorded his sixth career game-winning goal and second of the season, both of which have come against the Jets (also Oct. 11 vs. WPG). Prior to 2014-15, he had not scored a game-winning goal since Nov. 17, 2011 vs. DET.

* Brent Burns posted 1-1—2 for his fifth multi-point game of the season. He leads all defensemen with 11 goals and ranks third among blueliners with 31 points in 40 outings.

* Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture both collected two assists. They lead the team with 20-15—35 and 14-19—33, respectively, in 40 appearances this season.

* The Sharks improved to 13-2-4 in 19 all-time meetings with the Jets/Thrashers franchise, including a 6-0-3 mark as visitors.

LOOSE PUCKS
Jets forward Bryan Little notched one assist to extend his point streak to seven games (3-7—10), tied for the longest active run in the NHL (w/ Ryan Johansen: 3-4—7) . . . Teammate Blake Wheeler also posted one assist to push his point streak to six contests (2-5—7) . . . Sharks forward Melker Karlsson recorded his third goal of the season. He has 3-4—7 in 11 appearances since making his NHL debut on Dec. 9 vs. EDM . . . Jets defenseman Jay Harrison scored his first goal since being acquired by the team on Dec. 18 . . . The Maple Leafs relieved head coach Randy Carlyle of his duties. Assistants Peter Horachek and Steve Spott will handle coaching duties for the club’s next game on Wednesday vs. WSH . . . Blues forward T.J. Oshie, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Canadiens goaltender Carey Price were named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Jan. 4.

CANADIENS, LIGHTNING BATTLE FOR ATLANTIC DIVISION SUPREMACY
The top two teams in the Atlantic Division (and Eastern Conference) face off when the Canadiens (26-11-2, 54 points) play host to the Lightning (25-12-4, 54 points) at Bell Centre. This marks the second of five meetings between these clubs this season; Tampa Bay won the first matchup 7-1 on Oct. 13 at Amalie Arena, highlighted by a hat trick from Steven Stamkos and 1-3—4 from Victor Hedman. The Lightning also are 4-0-1 in the last five regular-season meetings between these teams dating to the start of 2013-14, but the Canadiens earned a four-game sweep in their opening-round series in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Overall, Tampa Bay has won five of its past six outings, while Montreal is riding a six-game winning streak – its second such stretch of the season (also Nov. 5-16).

AVALANCHE VISIT BLACKHAWKS ON NATIONAL TELECAST IN CANADA
The Avalanche (15-16-8, 38 points) visit the Blackhawks (26-11-2, 54 points) at United Center on a national telecast in Canada. This marks the third of five meetings between these teams this season; Colorado won four of their five matchups in 2013-14, but Chicago is 2-0-0 thus far in 2014-15, with both wins coming at Pepsi Center. Overall, the Blackhawks are 14-3-1 in their last 18 outings, including a 5-4 overtime victory on Sunday vs. DAL. The Avalanche, meanwhile, have picked up points in eight of their past 11 contests (6-3-2), but fell 4-3 on Sunday vs. CBJ.

FINALE OF ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC
The fourth and final episode of Road to the NHL Winter Classic, a four-part series chronicling the Capitals and Blackhawks as they prepared for the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day, airs tonight in both the United States and Canada.

The episode will air at 10:00 p.m. ET on EPIX in the U.S. and at 7:00 p.m. ET on SN Ontario, West and Pacific in Canada. Viewers in the United States also can stream the show for free on NHL.com, the NHL app and the official websites for each participating team as well as on EPIX.com and the EPIX mobile and connected device apps.

Capitals forwards Michael Latta and Tom Wilson will take over the team’s official Twitter account (@washcaps) to live tweet the season finale beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET.

KANE TOPS JERSEY SALES IN 2014
Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane had the top-selling jersey on Shop.NHL.com for 2014. He was followed by Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin.

CANADA WINS GOLD AT WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Canada defeated Russia 5-4 in the gold-medal game of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, earning its 16th gold medal and first since 2009. Four players with NHL rights scored for Canada in the championship game: Max Domi (ARI), Anthony Duclair (NYR), Nick Paul (OTT) and Sam Reinhart (BUF). The other goal came from Connor McDavid, one of the top prospects for the 2015 NHL Draft.
