BINNINGTON EDGES VASILEVSKIY IN NHL SAVE STREAK

Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 10 consecutive breakaway attempts by All-Star skaters to edge NHL wins leader Andrei Vasilevskiy (nine consecutive) of the Lightning and win the Bud Light NHL Save Streak. In its third year, the event has been previously won by Marc-Andre Fleury (14 straight saves) in 2018 and Henrik Lundqvist (12 straight saves) in 2019.



* ICYMI: Sharks forward Tomas Hertldonned a Justin Bieber mask for his shootout attempt on Binnington in a light-hearted nod to the future showdown.



CANADIAN ALL-STARS WIN FIRST-EVER WOMEN’S ELITE 3-ON-3...

Rebecca Johnston of the Canadian All-Stars opened the scoring 54 seconds into the contest and her teammate Melodie Daoust scored the game-winning goal early in the second frame as the Canadian All-Stars defeated the American All-Stars 2-1 in the first-ever Elite Women’s 3-on-3 presented by adidas. Hilary Knight scored for the American All-Stars.

* Canadian goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens stood tall, making 15 saves to outduel American rival Alex Cavallini (14 saves).

After Blues forward Ryan O’Reilly, Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner and Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane emerged from the field of 10 after shooting at targets from a platform in the stands, Kane was victorious in a sudden-death shootout to win the first-ever Gatorade NHL Shooting Stars.



* ICYMI: Three members of the Tkachuk Family were on the stage, with five-time NHL All-Star Keith Tkachuk stepping in alongside sons Brady and Matthew -- with the latter showing a little extra love for his hometown.

BARZAL UPSETS McDAVID TO TAKE FASTEST SKATER

Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (13.175 seconds) skated the fastest lap in the Bridgestone NHL Fastest Skater to dethrone Oilers forward and three-time reigning champion Connor McDavid (13.215) – who finished second.

* Barzal’s time was just .298 seconds off Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin’s record of 12.894 seconds set in 2016 and the 9th fastest lap on record. Only one other Islanders player has won the Fastest Skater event - Michael Grabner in 2011.



* In an event that has seen a variety of formats over the years, Barzal cracked the top 10 fastest times with his skate Friday in St. Louis.



SLAVIN EARNS ACCURACY EVENT WIN IN ALL-STAR DEBUT

Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin hit all five targets in just 9.505 seconds to win the Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting event. Since accuracy became a timed event in 2011, only one other skater has won with a time under 10 seconds (Daniel Sedin: 8.9 seconds in 2011).

2020 HONDA NHL ALL-STAR GAME TAKES CENTER STAGE ON SATURDAY

The brightest stars from around the League will hit the ice for the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Saturday which will see a return of the 3-on-3 tournament format, the same used for each of the past four seasons.



* Each game during Saturday’s All-Star tournament will be 20 minutes in length with teams changing ends at the 10-minute mark of each contest. Games that are tied after 20 minutes will be decided in a shootout.

* The winners of each semifinal game will meet in the final to determine the overall tournament champion with a prize pool of $1 million to be paid in its entirety to the tournament’s winning team.

* The first semifinal is an Eastern Conference showdown pitting the Atlantic Division, who have more goals in 2019-20 than any of the four teams participating on Saturday led by Boston’s David Pastrnak (37 goals) and Buffalo’s Jack Eichel (28 goals), against a Metropolitan Division squad that features Washington’s John Carlson, who leads all defensemen and ranks 10th overall in League scoring with 13-47—60 this season. Carlson’s teammate and St. Louis fan-favorite T.J. Oshie will also represent the Metropolitan Division.

* The second semifinal will see reigning Stanley Cup champions Jordan Binnington, Ryan O’Reilly, David Perron and Alex Pietrangelo lead the Central Division on home ice against the dynamic Oilers duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl – who rank first and second in the Art Ross Trophy Race.

NHL ALL-STAR QUICK HITS

* Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes will be in the Pacific Division lineup marking the third consecutive season a Vancouver rookie has played in the game (also Brock Boeser in 2018 and Elias Pettersson in 2019). This marks the first time in the expansion era and third time in All-Star history that a team has been represented by a rookie in three consecutive seasons.

* Should Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk (Pacific Division) meet Senators forward Brady Tkachuk (Atlantic Division) in the final, they would become just the fifth set of brothers in the last 40 years to face each other in an All-Star Game. The others: Daniel and Henrik Sedin in 2011; Derian and Kevin Hatcher in 1997; Brian and Joe Mullen in 1989; Brent and Brian Sutter in 1985.

* The average number of goals scored in the 12 games played under the 3-on-3 All-Star format is 10.3. The average for the eight semifinal games is 11.8, while the average for the four final games is a somewhat stingier 7.5.

* One divisional matchup has yet to take place in the four years of the 3-on-3 All-Star format: Central vs. Atlantic.

* In 1970, St. Louis became the first expansion city to host the All-Star game. The East Division topped the West 4-1, yet the St. Louis fans were buoyed by the performance of Blues goaltender Jacques Plante, playing the last of his eight career All-Star contests.
