NHL MORNING SKATE

VATRANO’S CAREER NIGHT LEADS PANTHERS TO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN
Frank Vatrano (1-3—4) posted a career-high four points to become the third undrafted player in Panthers franchise history to record four points in a game, joining Steve Reinprecht (Oct. 30, 2009) and Jesse Belanger (Jan. 19, 1994). Columbus’ Artemi Panarin (Oct. 11, 2018) and Calgary’s Mark Giordano (Nov. 1, 2018) are the only other undrafted players to accomplish the feat in 2018-19.

* Florida scored four third-period goals, including two in a span of nine seconds, to collect their third straight win. It marked the fifth time in team history in which the club has scored two tallies in a span of nine seconds or less - the club record is seven seconds, set on Feb. 10, 2004 vs. MTL.

* Aaron Ekblad opened the scoring to reach the 10-goal mark for the fifth straight season since entering the League in 2014-15. He became the 13th defenseman in the NHL’s modern era to score at least 10 goals in five consecutive seasons to begin their career.

SEASON OF COMEBACKS CONTINUES WITH KINGS RALLY

Paul Ladue gave the Kings the lead nearly four minutes after the Blues tied the game in the third period and Jonathan Quick turned aside 33 shots to earn the 302nd win of his NHL career and move past Mike Richter on the League’s all-time wins list among U.S.-born netminders.

* Los Angeles overcame a first-period multi-goal deficit to record the League’s 95th multi-goal comeback victory of the season. Only one other campaign in NHL history has witnessed more such wins through 758 games: 1985-86 (111).

* There have been 338 come from behind wins this season. The 2018-19 campaign features the most such victories through the first 758 contests of any season, besting the previous mark through that same span, set in 2005-06 (333).

KOIVU NETS 200TH GOAL IN WILD VICTORY
Mikko Koivu
was one of four different goal scorers and Devan Dubnyk recorded 30 saves as the Wild (25-21-3, 53 points) leapfrogged the idle Stars (24-21-4, 52 points) to move into third place in the Central Division. Minnesota, who improved to 4-0-1 in five contests against Vegas, are one of two teams without a regulation loss against the Golden Knights (also STL: 3-0-2).

* Koivu’s tally marked the 200th of his career. He and his brother, Saku Koivu (255), are the 14th set of brothers in NHL history to each score at least 200 career goals.

* Dubnyk, who has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his last three appearances overall, improved to 3-0-1 in four career starts against the Golden Knights (1.71 GAA, .946 SV%).

LAVIOLETTE REACHES 600-WIN MILESTONE

Viktor Arvidsson, who leads the League with 10 tallies since Jan. 1, netted his team-leading 19th goal of the season to help Peter Laviolettebecome the 20th head coach in NHL history and third in 2018-19 (also John Tortorella and Claude Julien), to hit the 600-win milestone.

SNEAK PEEK AT TUESDAY’S ACTION

STREAKS TAKE TO THE ICE IN CHICAGO

The Metropolitan Division-leading Islanders (29-15-4, 62 points) aim to post their second six-game win streak of 2018-19 when they visit Patrick Kane and the Blackhawks (17-24-9, 43 points) at the United Center Tuesday.

* The Islanders, who set their sights on becoming the first team from the Metropolitan Division to reach the 30-win mark, can post multiple win streaks of at least six contests in a single season for the fifth time in franchise history and first since the 1983-84 campaign (Oct. 29 - Nov. 11 and Dec. 10 - Dec. 22).

* New York, which has allowed a League-best 119 goals against (including three shootout deciding goals) this season, has posted shutouts in each of its last two outings. There have only been five instances in franchise history in which the club has allowed 130 goals or fewer (including shootout deciding goals) through the first 50 team games of a season: 2015-16 (129), 2003-04 (125), 1977-78 (122), 1976-77 (124) and 1975-76 (119).

* The NHL’s Third Star of the Week, Kane (29-41—70 in 49 GP) has found the score sheet in each of his last eight contests dating to Jan. 3 (7-13—20) and sits only two points shy of 900 in his career (341-557—898 in 871 GP). Only four American-born players in NHL history have reached the milestone prior to their 900th contest: Pat LaFontaine (752 GP), Joe Mullen (821 GP), Jeremy Roenick (860 GP) and Mike Modano (868 GP).

* The Blackhawks’ leading scorer also sits one marker shy of recording his 30th goal in 50 or fewer games for the second time in his career (also 2015-16). Four players in franchise history have accomplished the feat on multiple occasions, led by Hockey Hall of Fame member Bobby Hull (9x).

GAUDREAU PUTS 11-GAME RUN ON THE LINE AHEAD OF ALL-STAR NOD

Johnny Gaudreau and the Western Conference-leading Flames (32-13-5, 69 points) enter their final contest prior to the All-Star break with the opportunity to collect at least a point for the ninth straight game (7-0-1 dating to Jan. 5).

* Gaudreau (29-44—73) aims to extend the League’s longest active point streak to 12 games dating to Dec. 31, 2018 (10-12—22). The longest such run in franchise history is 16 contests, achieved on three occasions: Gary Suter (1987-88), Gary Roberts (1991-92) and Jarome Iginla (1999-00).
