ALL-STARS SHINE IN TAMPA AT ANNUAL SKILLS COMPETITION

Thirty-six skaters and eight goaltenders representing all 31 NHL teams competed across six events at the 2018 GEICO NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday night at AMALIE Arena.

* Oilers forward Connor McDavid won the Enterprise NHL Fastest Skater with a time of 13.454 seconds to become the first-ever player to win the contest in back-to-back years and the fifth to capture the title on multiple occasions joining Sergei Fedorov (1992 and 1994), Mike Gartner (1993 and 1996), Petr Bondra (1997 and 1999), Sami Kapanen (2000 and 2002) and Scott Niedermayer (1998 and 2004).



* Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin hit triple digits on the radar gun (101.3 MPH) to win the PPG NHL Hardest Shot for the first time in seven careerAll-Star Game appearances.



* Distracting shooters with his choice of music – ‘Let it Go’ from Disney’s Frozen – Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury put together 14 consecutive saves, including a highlight-reel glove save on Lightning forward Brayden Point, to capture the GEICO NHL Save Streak title.



* Canucks forward Brock Boeser – who tops all rookies and ranks seventh in the League with 24 goals this season – hit all five targets in 11.136 seconds to place first in Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting.



* Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau’s soft hands helped him capture the Gatorade NHL Puck Control Relay title at a time of 24.650 seconds.



* Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was the fastest to complete the Dunkin’ Donuts NHL Passing Challenge at a time of 46.610 seconds.



ICYMI: NHL ALL-STAR EDITION

* Devils forward Brian Boyle, who played 212 games with the Lightning across three seasons, received a standing ovation from the Tampa crowd.



* The Stanley Cup was ‘rescued’ from pirates during Tampa’s annual Gasparilla festival.



* In the spirit of the festival, Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman and Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson entered the 2018 GEICO NHL All-Star Skills Competitiondressed as pirates.



SHARKS AWARDED 2019 NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND

The NHL announced the selection of the San Jose Sharks, SAP Center and the city of San Jose as hosts of the 2019 National Hockey League All-Star Weekend. The League’s midseason showcase will take place Jan. 25-27, 2019, and will include the NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, Jan. 26, and the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 27.

NHL’S BEST ON DISPLAY AT SUNDAY’S ALL-STAR GAME

The biggest stars in the NHL will hit the ice on Sunday for the 2018 Honda NHL All-Star Game at AMALIE Arena in Tampa, Fla. The 3-on-3 format will divide the event into three 20-minute contests, with players from each division making up the four teams: Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan and Pacific.

* The Central Division will face the Pacific Division in the opening contest followed by the Metropolitan Division versus the Atlantic Division – which features four players from the host Lightning: Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brayden Point. Both winners will then face off in the tournament final.
