PANTHERS WIN AFTER HONORING FRANCHISE FOUNDER WAYNE HUIZENGA
On the night franchise founder Wayne Huizengawas honored at BB&T Center as part of the club’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Aaron Ekblad scored 40 seconds into overtime to power the Panthers past the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights.

* Aleksander Barkov (1-2—3) scored his League-leading fifth shorthanded goal of 2017-18, tied for the second-most in a single season in franchise history. Only three players since 2010-11 have scored more thanfive shorthanded markers in a single campaign: Jean-Gabriel Pageau (7 in 2015-16 w/ OTT), Frans Nielsen(7 in 2010-11 w/ NYI) and Michael Grabner (6 in 2010-11 w/ NYI).

DUCKS EXTEND HOME WIN STREAK TO FOUR GAMES
Ryan Kesler scored the go-ahead goal with 7:39 remaining in regulation to propel the Ducks to a win over the Kings and a 6-1-1 mark in their last eight games at Honda Center, including four straight wins. Anaheim improved to 22-16-9 (53 points) overall and are now tied, in terms of points, with Los Angeles (24-17-5, 53 points) for fourth place in the tightly-contested Pacific Division standings, where positions Nos. 2-4 are separated by just one point.

PACIORETTY HELPS CANADIENS SNAP THREE-GAME SLIDE
Max Pacioretty (2-1—3) factored on all three goals to help the Canadiens snap a three-game slide (0-1-2). Pacioretty has scored six times in his last six games dating to Jan. 4 (6-1—7) after netting eight goals in his first 40 contests of the season (8-13—21).

NHL TO RELEASE MID-SEASON DRAFT RANKINGS ON MONDAY
The NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s mid-season rankings for the 2018 NHL Draft will be released on Monday, January 22, at 11:00 a.m. ET. The rankings, featuring the top 217 skaters and 31 goaltenders in North America as well as the top 125 skaters and 15 goaltenders internationally, will be available on NHL.com andmedia.NHL.com.

CORNER BROOK CELEBRATES HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA
The 18th annual Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada – the country’s biggest single-day hockey celebration – will see all seven Canadian teams in action on Saturday across four games as part of a 12.5-hour marathon broadcast hosted live from Corner Brook, N.L. Ron MacLean will be on the ground to host the day’s festivities alongside several guests including Don Cherry and NHL alumni Wendel Clark, Lanny McDonald andBryan Trottier. AVALANCHE, FLAMES LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAKS
The Avalanche and Flames look to extend lengthy winning streaks when they host the Rangers and Jets, respectively:

* The Avalanche (25-16-3, 53 points) look to win nine consecutive games, which would equal the second-longest winning streak in franchise history (9-0-0 from Oct. 10-28, 2000). The franchise record is 12 consecutive games set during the 1998-99 season (12-0-0 from Jan. 10 – Feb. 7, 1999). Colorado has been led offensively by Nathan MacKinnon, who has recorded 7-10—17 over eight consecutive wins and ranks second in the League with 22-35—57 in 44 GP overall.

* The Flames (25-16-4, 54 points) look to earn a victory for the eighth consecutive contest, which would sit two shy of the franchise record of 10 games set during 1978-79 and matched last season. Johnny Gaudreauhas led Calgary with 2-11—13 in the seven consecutive victories and is tied for fourth in League scoring with 15-39—54 in 45 GP.
