BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 25, 2016) – A total of 211 players from 12 countries were selected at the 2016 NHL Draft, which concluded today at First Niagara Center.

Following is a breakdown of draft selections by birthplace:

OF NOTE

The Flyers, with the 48th overall pick, selected the first goaltender of the 2016 NHL Draft (Carter Hart). It marked the latest it has taken for a goaltender to be selected at the NHL Draft since 1986 (60th overall – Shawn Simpson).

MORE FAMILY TIES

* Jonathan Dahlen (No. 42 overall, OTT): His father, Ulf, was drafted seventh overall by the New York Rangers in 1985 and recorded 301-354—655 in 906 career NHL games with the Rangers, Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals.

* Chad Krys (No. 45 overall, CHI): His father, Mark, was selected 165th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1988 NHL Draft and played professionally for nine seasons in the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, International Hockey League and overseas in Germany.

* Givani Smith (No. 46 overall, DET): His brother, Gemel, was drafted 104th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2012 and skated for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, in 2015-16.

* Ryan Lindgren (No. 49 overall, BOS): His brother, Charlie, is a goaltender in the Montreal Canadiens organization and appeared in one game with the NHL club in 2015-16.

* James Greenway (No. 72 overall, TOR): His brother, Jordan, was selected 50th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2015 NHL Draft and skated for Boston University in 2015-16.

* Hudson Elynuik (No. 74 overall, CAR): His father, Pat, was drafted eighth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1986 and played in 506 career NHL games with the Jets, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators.

* Jack LaFontaine (No. 75 overall, CAR): His uncle, Brian Bradley, was drafted 51st overall by the Calgary Flames in 1983 and skated in 651 career NHL games with the Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning.

* Rem Pitlick (No. 76 overall, NSH): His father, Lance, was drafted 180th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in 1986 and skated in 393 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers. His cousin, Tyler, was drafted 31st overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2010 and spent the 2015-16 season with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

* Casey Fitzgerald (No. 86 overall, BUF): His father, Tom, was drafted 17th overall by the New York Islanders in 1986 and played 1,097 career NHL games with the Islanders, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. His brother, Ryan, was drafted 120th overall by the Bruins in 2013.

* Garrett Pilon (No. 87 overall, WSH): His father, Rich, was drafted 143rd overall by the New York Islanders in 1986 and skated in 631 career NHL games with the Islanders, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.

* Fredrik Karlstrom (No. 90 overall, DAL): His cousin, Marcus, was selected 194th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 2013.

* Jacob Cederholm (No. 97 overall, WPG): His brother, Anton, was selected 145th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2013 NHL Draft.

* Keaton Middleton (No. 101 overall, TOR): His brother, Jacob, was drafted 210th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 2014 and served as captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s in 2015-16.

* Brandon Duhaime (No. 106 overall, MIN): His father, Trevor, was selected 190th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1991 NHL Draft.

* Riley Stillman (No. 114 overall, FLA): His father, Cory, is a two-time Stanley Cup champion who registered 278-449—727 in 1,025 career regular-season NHL games. His grandfather, Bud Stefanski, was selected 154th overall by the New York Rangers in 1975 and played 12 seasons of professional hockey across five leagues.

* Nolan Stevens (No. 125 overall, STL): His father, John, was drafted 47th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984 and currently serves as associate head coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

* Patrick Harper (No. 138 overall, NSH): His cousin, Chris Conner, has skated in 180 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes and Washington Capitals.

* Christopher Paquette (No. 148 overall, TBL): His cousin, Cedric, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning 101st overall in 2012 and has compiled 18-13—31 in 122 NHL games.

* Graham McPhee (No. 149 overall, EDM): His father, George, skated in 115 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. He also has spent 23 seasons as an NHL executive, including serving as general manager of the Washington Capitals from 1997-2014 and most recently as a senior advisor for the New York Islanders.

* Eetu Tuulola (No. 156 overall, CGY): His brother, Joni, was selected 181st overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* Travis Barron (No. 191 overall, COL): His uncle, Andrew Cassels, was drafted 17th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1987 and skated in 1,015 career NHL games with the Canadiens, Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals. His cousin, Cole Cassels, was selected 85th overall by the Canucks in the 2013 NHL Draft.

* David Bernhardt (No. 199 overall, PHI): His brother, Daniel, was selected 119th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2015 NHL Draft.

* David Quenneville (No. 200 overall, NYI): His brother, John, was drafted 30th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2014 and won a Western Hockey League championship with the Brandon Wheat Kings in 2015-16. His brother, Peter, was drafted 195th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013. His second-cousin, Joel, has coached the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships. His uncle by marriage, Johnny Boychuk, is a defenseman with the New York Islanders.

* Ty Ronning (No. 201 overall, NYR): His father, Cliff, was drafted 134th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 1984 and recorded 306-563—869 in 1,137 career NHL games with the Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders.

DAY 2 TRADES

* Florida traded D Dmitry Kulikov and Vancouver’s 2nd-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (33rd overall, previously acquired) to Buffalo for D Mark Pysyk, Buffalo’s 2nd-round pick in 2016 (38th overall) and St. Louis’ 3rd-round pick in 2016 (89th overall, previously acquired).

* Arizona traded its 2nd-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (37th overall) to Tampa Bay for D Anthony DeAngelo.

* New Jersey traded Detroit’s 3rd-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (77th overall, previously acquired) to Pittsburgh for RW Beau Bennett.

* Chicago traded Columbus’ 4th-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (95th overall, previously acquired) to NY Islanders for NY Islanders’ 4th-round pick in 2016 (110th overall) and 6th-round pick in 2017.

* Los Angeles traded D Nick Ebert to Dallas for G Jack Campbell.

* Philadelphia traded San Jose’s 4th-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (120th overall, previously acquired) to NY Islanders for NY Islanders’ 4th-round pick in 2017.

* Chicago traded Florida’s 5th-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (144th overall, previously acquired) to St. Louis for St. Louis’ 5th-round pick in 2017.

* Winnipeg traded its 7th-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (187th overall) to Montreal for Montreal’s 7th-round pick in 2017.

* Boston traded its 7th-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (195th overall) to Florida for Florida’s 7th-round pick in 2017.
