New York Islanders First Season At Barclays Center Brings Premier Matchups Throughout 2015-16 Season

08/23/2015 at 7:33am EDT

By Joe Sudberg,

All things are trending upwards for the New York Islanders club, which reached the Eastern Conference playoffs with its young, talented core last season. Although the Islanders lost in seven games to the Washington Capitals, the Islanders bring their momentum to Brooklyn, as the Barclays Center is the new home venue after moving from Hempstead, Long Island.

Another positive is that the Islanders are returning virtually the same roster from last year’s successful season. John Tavares, Jaroslav Halak, Kyle Okposo, Travis Harmonic, Johnny Boychuk, Matt Martin and others are all back to improve upon their 47-28-7 record. It’ll be interesting to see if their home record is affected at all during the stadium switch, as the Islanders posted a strong 25-14-2 during the final season at Nassau Coliseum.

With the scheduled being released a few weeks ago, below is a look at some of the premier games for the upcoming season in terms of secondary market ticket prices per TiqIQ.com.

2/6/2016 | Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Islanders | Joe Louis Arena | Average Price: $851.30 | Get-in Price: $41

10/9/2015 | New York Islanders vs. Chicago Blackhawks | Barclays Center | Average Price: $452.88 | Get-in Price: $121

12/2/2015 | New York Islanders vs. New York Rangers | Barclays Center | Average Price: $444.72 | Get-in Price: $112

Currently, the highest average price for Islanders tickets is against the Detroit Red Wings in February. The average price of more than $850 will come down, as it should be closer to the get-in price of $41. The Red Wings and Islanders were both eliminated in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoff picture last season and are looking to take steps forward this season. Get help experiencing one of the best home crowds in the NHL by using Hipmunk.com for the most affordable airfare to Detroit to catch an Islanders game on the road.

In this calendar year, the Islanders face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks during the beginning of the season. This is the most expensive Islanders home game of the season right now, with an average ticket price of just over $450 and a get-in price of $121. Those traveling for these primetime games can find cheap hotels in Brooklyn, NY on Hipmunk.com right next to the Barclays Center.

Finally, the two New York teams square off at the Barclays Center on December 2. The Rangers are the toast of the town when it comes to hockey, but the move to the Barclays Center can only help the Islanders’ cause. With two New York teams sporting two major arenas, the stakes have been raised for New York’s hockey supremacy.
