Nash Not Moving

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Although the Columbus Blue Jackets continue to work the phones looking for a netminder, one name that is not involved in their talks is that of captain Rick Nash.

“Not once have I ever brought up his name,” Jackets GM Scott Howson told ESPN.com Thursday.

Sure, other teams have obviously inquired about Nash, but Howson has quickly closed that down.

For his part, Nash hasn’t asked to get out, either.

“Rick has never asked for a trade, contrary to what has been reported,” his agent Joe Resnick told ESPN.com on Thursday. “Rick is focused on trying to turn things around in Columbus and help the team get some wins.”

I read that headline and just figured that the Blue Jackets’ opponents were bringing the puck through center ice toward Columbus’ zone.

I might as well state it, before the Toronto media.  With Crosby’s concussion issue and Ovetchkin’s supposed clash with the Capitals coaching staff, could one or both of these players be headed to Toronto?

As long as Nash is a Jacket, the Jackets will continue to fail.

Nash may not be moving, but Howson will be pretty soon.

Because it bears repeating.

The defense of/excuses for Ovechkin’s lack of production are cute, really.  Except that you can get the 49th leading scorer in the league for a lot less than $10 mill a year.

For comparison’s sake, here are the players right above and below Ovechkin in the points race:

Lucic $4m
Duchene $3.2m
Craig Smith $715K
JVR $1.6m
Hartnell $4.2m

$10 million just doesn’t buy what it used to, where Ovechkin’s concerned.

Other teams roll 4 lines pretty consistently, too, and still manage to have top scorers in the league.  The Pens generally play four lines—didn’t keep Crosby from leading the league in scoring when he was healthy, or Malkin either, for that matter.
