Our goal as an organization is to build a team that wins consistently and competes for the Stanley Cup. Anything less is unacceptable! Everything we do in the coming weeks, months and years will be done to that end and everyone in our organization - myself, management, staff, coaches and players - will be held to that standard.
part of a letter-Blue Jackets majority owner John P. McConnell sent to season ticket holders. Read the rest of it at Puck-Rakers.

So when he says this
Everything we do in the coming weeks, months and years will be done to that end
It means we are gonna trade our assets to get another first round pick.

Dunno. That seems like the type of letter you send out when you’re about to fire the executive staff on down, which is long overdue.

and it’s some PR that’s trying to diffuse the protest that will happen tomorrow at the arena…

Exactly. The people of Cowtown are about to go in, pitchforks and torches, to protest this arena and the city’s complicity with the completely bushleague team. This whole “we’ve decided to stop losing and start winning” direction is hollow. What’s sad is if this team were in Cleveland with Dan Gilbert’s ownership, it might be competitive. This columbus team won’t be much of anything because the people running the circus don’t know what they’re doing at all.

You can’t claim to be building a winner until you get rid of the front office who has failed to do so for years. Hopefully this is a prelude to a big turnover in staff. Turnovers are their specialty after all.

Precisely. While I question the mental capacity of the people who still root for this team, I’m guessing cheap platitudes aren’t going to draw any water with them.

absolutely… just look at what he has done with that Cavalier organization

On the plus side, the team will save big on postage in the future when they have to send these platitudes to fewer and fewer seasons ticket holders.

The Cavs were competitive for a while. Last year they sucked hard for a lot of reasons. It was a rebuilding year and they’re still rebuilding. They will be competitive within the next season or two at most. Contrasting the BJs w/ the Cavs only proves my point. The Cavs did finish dead last just last season, after making it to the finals a few times and the post season regularly. CBJ has had exactly one postseason where they were swept right out after 4 losses and no wins. We’re talking competitive contenders, not championships. Gilbert does have a competitive team. McConnell does not.
Posted by redxblack from Akron Ohio on 01/27/12 at 05:36 PM ET
Cavs were competitive because of one player that left because he wanted to go to a more competitive team.
McConnell was able to keep his franchise player
Look, I’m not backing the ownership group here but to state that team would be better served being in Cleveland under Gilbert’s ownership is comical & ridiculous.

Where was the outrage when Ohio State snubbed the BJ’s and the City and said they wouldn’t touch Nationwide Arena saddling the BJ’s with horrible leasing arrangements? Where was the outrage when Ohio State (football) was caught and led to the firing and suspending of players? All this supposed outrage against the BJ’s (which are ineptly run) but oh, Ohio State, you can do no wrong? Columbus in particular is full of hypocrites.

Sorry to quibble, but Calgary is Cowtown; they laid the first claim. I have never been to Ohio, but the majority of Albertans actually own cows.
@ SYF…...You sir, have made me smile.
