Morning Line

By the time this season is over, Subban will be a candidate for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.

-Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette where you can read more on this topic plus other NHL points…

Regarding Subban, Darren Pang on TSN last night made an honest mistake when talking about Subban, then said so and that should be the end of the story.  I watched the segment live and I did not go all twitter crazy like others did, just thought it was an honest mistake which we all make.

I really like Pang, and I feel horrible that this is going to most likely stick with him for a long time.

*sigh*  I don’t like how Drama constantly seems to follow Subban already…

I was watching the segment where Pang was talking about Subban, and as soon as the word “white” came out of his mouth you just knew someone, somewhere, was going to jump all over what was, without question, an honest mistake. You could see the tension on the TSN panel right after he said it, too.

In our hyper-sensitive society, Pang may have to pay a price, career-wise, for his honest mistake.

Was that the “white” instead of “right” slip of the tongue?

Everyone slips up like that from time to time - most other players it wouldn’t have been an issue. I’ve lost track of how many times the commentators (NOT fans) say “Sidney Crosby” so quickly that it does sound like they are saying “Cindy.” The sounds are so similar that it is an easy mistake to make when speaking quickly and thinking ahead to the next point the speaker wants to make.

Don Cherry hasn’t and he doesn’t make a mistake that even by the most charitable could be dismissed as a slip of the tongue.

It was obviously a slip of the tongue with no ill intentions, racial or otherwise.

Would it even be an issue if Pang were talking about a white player?

If he had said “right ray” would TSN be apologizing to all the Rays in the world?

Honest question, who’s complaining about this the most?

But Cherry gets a pass because he caters to the overly-xenophobic and jingoistic in society.

Isn’t it funny that it’s CANADA he’s somehow popular in, and not the U.S.?.... but yet the U.S. is the one supposedly full of the jingoistic, xenophobes.

I love Darren Pang more than any other short(er) man I know of, but I can’t watch video at work, what is the exact quote?

Coach’s corner has been a staple and an ‘institution’ in Canada since 1980, we’ve all grown up with him and the only way he’s changed in his approach is with his old age he’s become scatterbrained. It all works very well, and has for the last thirty years.
