“We made it so easy on them (Canucks) in the first 20 minutes, we just handed the puck over and all they did was counterattack.  Anytime we did get in (the Vancouver zone), we weren’t there long, for that reason.

“I’ve said it 100 times, but the way the rules are in the league now, if you get pucks in behind the (defencemen) and hunt them down and finish your checks on them, you soften them up, it doesn’t matter who it is.

“We didn’t choose to do that near enough in the first period and it took us a little while in the second period to make it a consistent part of our game. We got back into it because of that. It’s not a tricky formula, but it’s certainly one we have to pay attention to.

“It’s a tough game, it’s a tough league and we’ve got to man up and participate.”
